Lucky Strike

Cecily had let her brother work Jagger out for the Arc, the horse responded well to him and she could tell that Colton was enamored by him. But today Colton was riding Nichi, and once again she was saddling up the big colt that Waylon had leased from Dallas at White Blood Stables. She got help into the irons while Waylon gave Colton the pre-race pep talk, so while she waited for her's she just ran her fingers through the colt's mane.

"You got a taste of winning big boy, what did you think of it?" Jagger's ears flicked back towards her and he danced in place, which just made Cecily laugh. "Think you can do it again huh?"

Waylon was headed their way so she reached up and ruffled the bit of mane between his ears, "I'm sure everyone would be real proud of you if you did it again."

"Yes we would Jagger," reaching up to pet the colt's neck he smiled and then looked up at Cecily. "Think he can do it?"

"Colton's gotten him in good form, if he runs straight we'll do okay."

"Well, there is that." He grinned and patted Jagger again. "I guess we'll just see what he gives us huh?"

Cecily nodded and ruffled the colt's mane again. Of course Jagger knew he'd been a little...squirrelly in training. But running backwards on this surface was weird to him and he wasn't the biggest fan. But this was race day! Completely different! And he knew most of the horses out there, including Dee and Ghost there was no way he was going to show them how much he'd been struggling with running backwards. He was a professional after all.

They were in the post parade and Cecily could see that Nichi was being full of himself, a good sign since they all had questions about the oldest horse on their string. He'd been retired from Japan because of an injury and then after he'd healed and returned to training, off his former form, he'd come to Fox Harbor. His form had gotten better, but there were still a lot of questions. But Cecily had to say he looked mighty full of himself today.

"I think your stablemate is ready for a race, are you Jags?" Jagger tossed his head a few times as they paraded, prancing like Nichi though slightly reserved. Once they were loaded in he twisted his head to look at either side of him and finding himself between Robbery and Dee. One filly he knew fairly well, and one he hadn't seen before. But caught himself admiring before the gates opened.

Cecily huffed, they got a late start though she wasn't sure why Jagger had seemed distracted. And then they were off, headed after the pack and blowing past Nichi who her brother was holding back with all his might. Jagger was still not quite running in a straight line, which was obvious as he veered far out. Trying to get him back in line Cecily aimed him at Dee who was just in front of them, if she could just get him focused and running alongside a horse he knew maybe it'd help keep him on a more accurate path.

As she was bringing him around she spotted Blackbeard, that was definitely a horse to  contend with and she was going to use him as a target for Jagger.

"See that one boy? With the spots? Let's go get 'im." Jagger's ears flicked backward and she felt him kick it up a notch pulling tighter to Dee and straightening out. If they could stay on this path they just might repeat their winning ways!
