This was exhausting, never ever ever ever again...yeah right lol I'll do this again but not now o.o It's also a bit messy because I rushed quite a bit to finish this in time. T_T

Story:

Whispers echoed behind Waylon as he leaned against the rail waiting to watch his senior entrants run, whispers about his old stallion hit his ears and he sighed softly. There had been a lot of scuttlebutt about whether or not he was being cruel by throwing his horse in this race after his breakdown at the finish line in Australia. But they didn't live with him, they hadn't slept in his stall while he recuperated down under, or stood vigil over him every day on his ranch. They also hadn't been the one whose heart sank as they watched the battle down the stretch cause the breakdown he was so afraid of having happen.

And they didn't have to see the defeat in his stallion's eyes when he'd come home, battered and bruised, a broken champion. They whispered about things he knew they didn't understand, and there were some things he couldn't put a value on. For him, knowing that taking Nichi out of competition before the stallion was really ready would kill the horse. Waylon didn't realize his hands were shaking as he watched Nichi rear up just outside of the gate.

"Please boy...just come home safe."

He heard the thrash of hooves and looked again to Nichi loaded up and ready to go, the effect made him smile softly. It was good to see the fire in the horse again, and though he knew that it was the fire of the champion inside him that caused his breakdown in the first place there were some things that he couldn't help but smile over. Especially after everything they'd been through.

Cecily joined him at the rail and rubbed his shoulder, "He'll be alright boss."

"Have you heard them?"

"Yeah, don't let them get to you. What you're doing for Nichi is right by him, they don't get it, but I do. Colton does. He was bred to be on that track Waylon, bred with that fight deep inside him. He'll tell you when he's done, but he's far from done yet."

Waylon offered a soft smile and watched as the gates opened, Nichi reared up before kicking off and charging for the lead just like he always did. But it seemed that Harley was doing a good job of coaxing him to conserve some energy. Hopefully, enough so that he could come across the finish line safely and maybe put another win on the board.

Jagger had been prepping nicely for this race, he'd been extremely consistent in his last set of outs with the FHF team and though they'd had a few set backs with other horses everyone was pleased with what they were seeing with the bay colt from WBS. Waylon had saddled him up for this race, giving him a good little scritch behind the ear while he smiled at the stallion.

"What do you think Jags? Want to give it another go here?" The stallion snorted and nibbled at Waylon's hat which made him laugh. "You're going to do great, I just know it big guy." He rubbed the horse's cheek again before he went to check on Nichi.

Colton was up this time, though they had planned on him being up before Nichi's breakdown he was still nervous about the other horse. Idly running his fingers through Jagger's mane while they waited in line to load up he sighed softly. "Sorry Jaggy boy, guess I'm somewhere else today." Jagger pawed at the dirt and loaded as easily as he always did, it wasn't until the gates opened that his competitive spirit showed itself.

Things had been very different at FHF this season, they'd added more horses, had more problems, and Jagger had been watching it all. He knew that the stallion next to him was back after an injury and he knew that he still had a job to do. And he sure as heck was going to do it!
