Description
It was time to train for the Arlington Million, so Waylon had Colton take Nichi out to the turf track to see what the horse had in him. He'd run well for them on the woodchips, and better on the dirt when training with younger partners but he hadn't been out on his own just yet and now Waylon wanted to see if everything he'd heard about the horse from Japan was true. And what he'd heard was that when Nichi was in full gallop the earth trembled under him, that he danced in the sunlight and it shone off his socks like a beacon at night. Of course he had a feeling it was just hooplah over this grandson of Sunday Silence, a horse that was very revered over there for his progeny and much missed but...who knows maybe the stallion did manage to make the earth shake.
Colton was up on his back and Waylon had told him to do a 1 1/4, and so a mile and a quarter it was. He kept him at pace putting up easy fractions for the first mile and then he really let Nichi open up, and what he felt was thunder. The minute that horse lengthened it's stride he was just holding on for dear life and grinning like a fool. He hadn't felt something so easy and effortless before and it was just simply amazing, he could only imagine what Waylon was thinking as they tore across the turf.
Waylon was thinking he'd made a good investment, and that the black stallion embodied everything he wanted in the start of this newly reformed Fox Harbor Farms. Slapping the rail he was all smiles as Nichi came around with barely a speck of sweat on him. Colton pulled the stallion to a stop and pointed at the stop watch, "What's the verdict boss?" Waylon looked down and immediately dropped the stop watch, "You're not going to believe this..."
