Slade was still pleased that his life was relatively at ease. He spent his time watching over his mares, and they spent their time wandering through the valley. Much like his father, they had a few favorite spots to stay near. One was a nearby river that provided good water and shade with tall cottonwood trees. The foals also liked this spot as they were allowed to roam a bit since the trees were tall and they had an overall good line of sight. They were in this nice retreat now from the summer heat, sipping on water and moving in and out of the shade. They would go out and graze on the plains and return after some time to rest and cool off. It was a simple cycle that Slade enjoyed. As they made their way back to the shade, Slade watched Clara lead the way. She was growing into a beautiful young mare, and Slade couldn't help but be proud of her. She was free-spirited, but listened carefully. Brianna had been extremely protective of her when she was born, but eventually she relaxed.
