Decorator (POL)

History

Decorator was claimed by Waylon in one of the $3,000 claiming races at Zia Park, he'd been there to check out a few other horses when he saw the flashy mare languishing in claiming race after claiming race. She'd only won a few thousand dollars in the states, as most of her races were extremely low in purse value. But when Waylon saw her, he saw something. A fire in her that was being extinguished every day she ran these short little sprints. When he looked at her pedigree he saw some exceptional horses, but none that people would really recognize with her Polish breeding. And then he dug up her Polish career and saw that there was more than people here could ever understand. There was greatness there. When he saw her hit the track she bellowed, tossing her head and rearing up to lash out. She was a roarer, a loud horse announcing herself to anyone who would listen. Sadly...only a handful of people were there to see her run. He watched as an inexperienced jockey was strapped onto a nuclear bomb, she was wild and crazy and the jockey didn't have the experience to get her under control. Despite that, she managed to knock her way into a show and win a few more dollars. But Waylon won himself a flashy filly who needed a lot of work. He took her back to the farm and worked hard to get her back under control, starting her in an Allowance which she won easily and then taking her to a G1 win, her one and only.

Temperament

Di Di had been spirited in Poland as a runner, but not the hell beast that she'd been at Zia Park. She was frustrated, under exercised and out of control. It took time to get her back to where she needed to be, once the amount of work and exercise met her competitive spirit she turned into an easy to manage mare. As a broodmare she's relaxed unless her foals are threatened.

Conformation

Unfortunately, Decorator does not hail from a super healthy line of horses. Being born with bad ankles and knees she struggled to overcome that in her career overseas. She managed to with careful training, but unfortunately when she was brought to the states the trainer was not nearly as kind. Forcing drugs into her system to try and mask the pain, Decorator ran poorly and suffers from permanent damage even now. It's suspected that these bad legs can pass on to offspring and thus should be carefully bred to clean legs.
