Description

Waylon had kept Nichi in France after his game place run in the Prix du Moulin de Longchamp and kept him in training with Colton and Cecily, the hope was that he would be more than prepared to take on his next challenge in the Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe. Once more the black stallion would find himself in a race with WBS Ghost Hour, BTs - Blackbeard Got Some Ink, and current stablemate WBS Moves Like Jagger. But Waylon felt that Nichi had an edge going into this race, he'd just barely been beaten by the stunning Blackbeard in the Longchamp, but he'd come out of it with a fire displayed in training.

The training style for this race had been very much relaxed, he'd had Colton taking the stallion and running along the heath, running along the rivers and just bringing him back to being a horse again. There was some concern that perhaps he was getting a bit too old to compete with these younger fresher horses, he'd been through a lot but...Waylon felt there was something else waiting to come out of the stallion. Something else he had to show them. And each time he watched the six year old stallion run he felt his knees go weak a little, but as the season was nearing a close Nichi had only been in the money once despite his best game efforts before. And Waylon didn't want to risk the stallion's health if he wasn't fit to continue to race for Fox Harbor, even if his career with them had been minimal. He'd proven all he'd needed to prove in Japan before coming to them.

Still, it was race day, and Waylon swallowed all his concerns as he helped Colton saddle up Nichi before he'd go help Cecily with Jagger. "Keep him controlled Colt, don't let him lose his stamina by taking the early lead like he did in the Arlington. Ghost's got a hell of a kick, we'll need him to hold onto it as long as he can. But you know he..."

"Hates to be in the back, so keep him towards the front. I know, boss. We'll get them." Colton rubbed Nichi's neck and let his brow furrow, "Who else is out there?"

"Blackbeard, he's a mean closer don't let him get up on you, keep your eyes peeled. And then there is that filly Robbery. She was right behind you at Longchamp, and put away Sabrina without breaking a sweat. Jagger is in good form too..."

"I know, I got him there. Jagger is game enough to put up a hell of a fight, Cecily is going to tear up that course with him. But let me worry about it boss, you go up there and cheer us both on. Nichi and I have plenty to show everyone, don't we boy?"

Nichi stamped a front hoof and tossed his head a few times, he felt like he did have plenty to prove. This was a race full of young mares and colts and he was no spring chicken the only horse out there near his age was a year older than him,
TLEC Quiet Fellow. And Beau was quite the impressive stallion, a horse that Nichi had a lot of respect for. Not that the young ones didn't get the same respect, but he still felt like he needed to show them, along with Beau, that just because they had a few more miles on their hooves didn't mean they weren't able to give a challenge!

Eyeing Ghost in the stall next to him he whinnied at her and moved his lips against his bit for a moment, wishing the mare luck before he was eased out into the paddock for the post parade. Buddy was at his side and he tilted his head to nibble at the gelding's mane, as he pranced to the gate. He didn't fight the loaders instead he just walked in and settled while everyone else moved into position. When the last horse, Blackbeard, actually was loaded he tossed his head and whinnied then pushed back against his rear hooves to prepare for the gates to swing open.

The moment they did he pushed off, lunging for all he was worth out of that gate to try and take the early lead like he had in the Arlington but he felt hard pressure from Colton and he threw his head to the side fighting the bit and the man on his back. It caused Nichi to slow, his stride coming up short as several horses blew past him. Colton was doing what he was told but it was taking more effort than he hoped, and it caused the stallion to move awkwardly and without purpose.

But it did serve to fire Nichi up as he galloped in the middle of the pack for the what seemed like the longest time, until Colton finally released his grip on the reins and let the stallion do as he pleased. And that's when he took off chasing down the white mare before him, and hearing Robbery closing in behind him. He was going to catch that ghost if it was the last thing he did, or at least give all he had to try to.
