Story:
Demon was insane in the saddling area, the moment that blinded hood went over his head he lost it. Rearing, bucking, throwing the grooms every direction possible. He was a horse possessed, only settling when Harley's hands came on his neck. That's when his ears flicked forward and he strained to listen to his rider, the boy was up and in the saddle in an instant and Demon stood chomping on his bit waiting for instructions. On the gallop out to the gate he was a little wild, offering a few kicks but Harley remained relaxed, calm despite his nerves for the Derby, he was focused on trying to get Demon through this without being too crazy.
After all this was the first time he was racing in full blinders, and anything could happen in this field of horses. In the gate Demon stood, but Harley could feel his muscles twitching beneath him. He could tell that it was only a matter of time before the colt snapped. And when those gates were thrown open...he definitely snapped. He charged forward kicking clear and attacking the turf like it was his enemy. Harley worked hard to get him where he wanted him, just off the pace where he could hear the horses but not be in their line.
But Demon had other plans, hearing a horse on his inside the colt dove towards the rail, trying to close him off. But being blind he really couldn't judge what he was doing and Harley had to throw his body in the opposite direction to force him to correct before there was a collision. The last thing Harley wanted was an accident on the track! Wrestling with Demon the rest of the way Harley could feel his body getting exhausted by the moment, but he was fighting to hold on until they got to the finish line.
Things blurred in that moment, Harley could feel the world closing in on him and he white knuckled the reins. Demon kept running beneath him but Harley couldn't see. There was nothing but darkness, and it wasn't because his goggles were dirty either. Fear ran up his spine and he broke his lowered position to half stand in the stirrups, still Demon fought on. They were still running after all! Even when they crossed the finish line Harley couldn't see, he could here cheers from the crowd but his fear made them hard to understand...he had no idea who won all he knew was that he was petrified and as soon as he could he stood straight up in the saddle and jumped off, making it appear like something was wrong with the colt to those watching. But the problem wasn't Demon...the problem was Harley.
