The car made it to the top of the hill on its dying breath. The barrage of ground ginger had clogged the air filter, and volatile components found their way into every sensor. The dashboard was lit up like a Yule tree. Red and orange warning light flashed or shone bright. Mrs. Pembroke pressed the override button again. To no avail. She set the transmission in neutral and let the car roll down the hill. The nearest house was not far. With any luck, gravity would pull the car all the way. The old man lived alone. This much Mrs. Pembroke had figured out. They sat in his worn down couch. He had made excuses for his shabby clothes and ill-kept house. She had smiled and patted him on the arm. They had a roof over their head, the storm rising from the North could break twigs and small branches, but not breech the house. They sat in marginally comfortable silence, sipping on chamomile tea with honey. She waited patiently for the man to doze of. She had made a phony call to the road

An American Tail: Fievel's New York Tails Special

"A History Tail" SCENE 1: The episode opens with an exterior shot of the Astor Library, in mid-morning. We then slowly zoom down in and focus on Fievel, sister Tanya, and their friends Tony and Bridget all climbing the doorstep just before the entrance. At the top, they stop and look left and right, finding that no one else is about, then approach the door. The door is locked, and a sign reading “Closed Sundays” is hung in the window. Fievel and Tanya look sad and start to turn back, before Tony suddenly taps them and points to a small gap between two bricks at the bottom-section of the front wall. The siblings smile, the quartet runs to the hole and tip-toes through it one by one. Cut to inside, the wide airy main hall with light shining through the windows and sunroof. The surrounding rooms are shadowed by the large bookshelves. Pan down to Fievel, standing in the middle of the main room floor, he turns in a circle, eyeing everything around him. Tanya walks into frame and steps

The cycle

Ava returns home from a visit with her dads. She gets to the door and hopes to Irene that the boys are behaving, and that the apartment is still in one piece. She takes a deep breath and goes inside. As expected, the boys are in chaos. Noi is freaking out, running around the apartment, screaming as if Johnny is chasing him again. Said kitty is asleep in his cat tree, lucky. Leif is talking about killing, as usual, Pierce is giving him a deadly look, and Rhys is oddly silent. On a normal day, Rhys would be calming them down and trying to be the voice of reason. She walks inside, closing the door behind her. “What’s going on?” She asks. “Princess Ava!” Noi shouts, running over to her. “You have to help us!” He continues. Ava sighs. “What did you boys do?” She asks, looking over at the others, mainly Leif, expecting him to have threatened the poor landlord again. “Nothing! It’s stupid Asch and his stupid ‘Princely daemos cycle!” Leif shouts, almost offended by the accusing

I noticed that the Colt was not doing so well over the last few days…he was only a week old. A Winter Show

word count: 2000+ It was November, the snow was falling early this year. As I sat on the porch in the evening, drinking my tea And watching the snow fall silently….it was so peaceful. As the staff was finishing up for the night, and Skylar Was due to come home this week for winter vacation. Amber really missed Skylar while she was a collage, Every day she would wait at the gate for her, I did my best to make her feel at home while Skylar was gone. The next morning I decided to groom Amber & get her ready for Skylar, so I shoveled the driveway with the Truck & shovel and then walked down to the mare barn to start the morning feeds….and then...

[CV] A New Ally

The blizzard had seemed to finally blow itself out. Wisps of snow blew through the canyon and danced around the horses’ feet as they made the ascent. Perseus shook out his mane, sending gobs of snow flying in all directions, as he led the way. Looking across the valley, he was glad that they had found the canyon when they did. The landscape was completely changed now and covered in a thick layer of snow and ice. The sun rising in the east cast a beautiful light through the icicles hanging in the tree branches. Percy marveled at the sight for a moment before his heart sank. How on earth would they find food? Before he could worry much longer,...

”Aloine...I...I’m…” Aloine shook her head slowly, as if in a trance. She didn’t want to hear it. Not right now. She couldn’t. Her mate lay there in the mud, blood pooled around his dark mane...and he was gone. His eyes were closed but he wasn’t sleeping. At least, not a sleep he would ever wake from. A high pitched keening sound rang in her ears and she wasn’t sure where it came from. Her eyes couldn’t focus and the world felt like it was spinning too quickly. Slowly, so slowly, she went down to her knees in the mud next to Breigo. She curled her body around his and rested her head on his side. ”Go...tell the others…” she whispered to Far...

[CV] Mud and Rain and More Mud

It was an uncharacteristically warm winter day and rain was drizzling from the clouds above. The rain had melted away some of the snow on the ground, leaving puddles of slush everywhere and making it easier to graze on the grass. Perseus was enjoying his morning when a stampede of foals rocketed past him, splashing him all over with cold, muddy slush. Percy blinked rapidly, shocked at the sudden unpleasant feeling, that he didn’t even have time to reprimand the foals before they were gone. Percy sighed and shook himself off. He heard snickering and his ears perked up to see Denna and Sparrow sharing a laugh at his expense. Percy wuffled hi...

Horse Prussia x Horse Reader: Part 3: Gil, the BFF

(Y/n): your name (c/c): coat color (e/c): eye color (m/c): mane/tail color (f/c): favorite color ~~ ~~Two months later~~ To quote Gilbert, things at the stud farm in Prussia had become…“unawesome”. That wasn’t to suggest anything was going wrong or that you were uncomfortable, but that things were becoming slow...and boring. Or maybe Gilbert was rubbing off on you, and you thought so by now. Overall, life was good: the people were slowly and steadily earning your trust, although the silver stallion remained at the top of that list, and he gave you subtle hints that he was pleased by your progress. In the last two weeks, you’d allowed a full wash down, cleaned hooves and the simplest of shoes, a well-brushed mane and tail, a woolen stable blanket and, most impressive of all, an embroidered leather (f/c) halter with your personal lead rope. The people didn’t often use the rope, however, because you still went wherever you chose. As for Gilbert, the two of you continued to grow

This is what I’ve grown up to be…I’m sorry if it’s not what you expected, but I can’t deny what I am—” Alfred cut you off when he pushed his broad face into your (c/c) neck, nickering in his throat. The curl on his head was long enough to tickle the other side of your neck and when he lifted his head to meet your gaze, you saw his blue eyes held nothing but respect and adoration. “You don’t have to explain anything,” he said, his voice much softer. “You’re my best friend. Besides, we make a good team, don’t we? Yeah...” He nodded, suddenly confident. “If I’m the Hero, then you’re my sidekick! So, as long as we’re together, we can do anything we want!” You had to whicker a chuckle to yourself. Sometimes he could be so cute when he got excited. The set of his blue eyes told you he was trying to think of something.

Because it was just you and him here, he always gave you attention and asked how you were doing or if you needed anything. His concern was touching and made you feel protected, mainly because you had always protected yourself in the wild. You also saw the benefit of sleeping in a stall every night; you didn’t fear the hooting of owls, but you often flinched when the bushes rustled during the night, even among your herd. In the safety of the little barn, there was no need to startle and you enjoyed the company of the moon and stars. And Matthew. Even he must know by now that you were grateful for his help. The one reason you weren’t anxious all the time was because he was teaching you new words, what they meant and how
