Description
I have an impression, in the back of my mind;
For the black in my tie contains all your dirty thoughts.
Make me an obsession, when you lock me inside;
For the ride of your life unleashed, gonna get it off.
No, can't count the list of things;
I know are wrong with me.
No need to justify them;
No, I'll never take the blame.
So I'll just stay the same;
I'll never stop.
I can't quite contain or explain my evil ways.
Or explain why I'm not sane.
All I can say is this is your warning.

FHF Agent of Hell
Harley was remembering that night as he stood in the paddock, dressed in orange, and staring down the beast he hadn't ridden since the Champagne. It was like Demon could see through him, even though he couldn't see at all behind those cups. Like he could sense his unease, and it made the hellion even more of a hellion than usual. Handlers and other riders as well were terrified of him as he reared and bucked attempting to take out anyone who challenged him. Taking a deep breath Harley took a step forward, grabbed the lead rope from the handler's hands and gave it a quick snap. "Enough."
Barnabas had told him to be brave with the horse, steady, calm, and not take no for an answer. So when Demon went after him, teeth bared, Harley just stood there and gave the shank another shake. "I said, enough." Demon stopped, ears pricked forward, teeth bared like a rabid dog and stamped a hoof. He respected Barnabas, he didn't respect this child and he was clearly challenging him in front of everyone. Harley just took a step forward, dropped the rope and grabbed the reins. "Now. We're going to go for a run, and we're going to work together. Understand?"
Demon stood and slowly lowered his foreleg, giving Harley the apparent green light to mount up. And when he did...he wasn't surprised that Demon decided to give him one more reminder that he wasn't in charge. The massive colt reared, legs flailing and Harley held tight, legs clenched and hands keeping those reins nice and short. "ENOUGH!" Demon came down with a huff and Harley resituatied himself in the saddle. "Get that out of your system Demon?" The colt snarled, actually snarled and then charged forward without Harley being quite prepared. But he was able to get the reins pulled tight, and keep him choked up as they hit the track for their warm up.
Sure...Demon was a monster, but Harley wasn't unprepared for their battle. And...well...today was a different day for both of them.

Fox Harbor Farms
Trainer: Waylon Givens
Jockey: Harlan "Harley" Givens for Barnabas Skellar
A rare thunderstorm was railing the day they arrived back in Australia and everyone seemed to sense it as they pulled their own personal Demon from the trailer. He stood there, against the darkness like his own version of the thunderclouds above, those brown eyes flashed and he drove forward in an instant. Barnabas never saw it coming, and no one could do anything to help him as Demon struck him square in the head with a wayward hoof. Barnabas went down, and in that instant the Demon broke free running full out into the tempest with the lead rope trailing behind him. The team moved in an instant, Barnabas needed intensive medical care...and Demon needed to be rounded up before he disappeared into the night for good.Harley was remembering that night as he stood in the paddock, dressed in orange, and staring down the beast he hadn't ridden since the Champagne.
