geisha's anger by candy-quackenbush geisha's anger by candy-quackenbush
this is actually from a story of a courtesan geisha from about the 15th century
this depicts the subordinance of a geisha; when geishas get angry, all they are allowed to do are bite the sleeves of their kimonos
i did this for an art project this year, voicing my anger on women's inferiority through the ages

*prismacolor pencils on colored/textured cardstock; slight print-making style

I like this...
I'm actually starting a painting(or something) in art that will be representative like this topic... of a geisha biting her robe...

Not that many people understand the meaning of that... but.. yeah...

i know what u mean..i started this piece for a project in art class that had to center around a theme that concerned us..mine was a bit feminist, and i wanted to represent the history of women's repression, and how it's still dominant today in some cases..i knew i had to do this after i read an article in a national geographic about the history of geishas..the article really affected me, and it hurt my heart..so this is the creation of the embodiment of those feelings..i think i almost cried when i understood the meaning of the act
