i ' M PSSIN G THEY JUST GOT MORE DINSEY VILLAIN LOOKING AND AND LIKE THEY SHOP AT HOT TOPIC AND PRETTY MUCH THE OPPOSITE OF WHO THEY USED TO BE.
JIMINY CHRISTMAS. I- Ok, I found some old art in an old file on my old laptop and hOOOOO boy. Oh me oh my. I mean I still have my old sketch books but my old sketchbooks didn't have.......Microsoft Paint.
So before Kassian and Robin were Kassian and Robin, they were Leaf and Mousy Sprocket.

Alright, so I was listening to a session www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYgyGO… of one of my favorite podcasts on "Mary Sues" and why we should embrace and love who our old characters were and how they grew. so I became inspired to do a side-by-side comparison of a few of my favorite findings. If you followe me on tumblr or twitter you may have seen the one of Cybele.
I feel like Leaf and Kassian are more similar than their physical appearances let on. Leaf was heavily CLAMP inspired and had a sort of personality mixture of Fai and Yukito from the TRC and CCS series. Kassian still has those influences but has a very different aesthetic pushed onto him and a very different personality. I feel like if you were to put these two in a room it would be very tense and awkward for the first ten minutes (While Leaf would be open to conversation, Kassian would look open to conversation but also very stiff and closed off, like he wanted the floor to swallow him whole than to be conversing with this weirdly attentive-to-detail stranger.) but I think after that initial awkwardness they'd have a very stable sort of flow that isn't taxing on Kassians energy. Kind of like the sort of level conversing that's similar to his talks with Matthus or Ta'korak. They both have something to hide, and they both have different, yet also similar ways of dealing with it. One is just more extroverted than the other.
I also find it interesting that Kassian/Leaf has gone from being a symbol of life, green and plantlife to a symbol of death, black and white and ghost.
Ok...Robin and Mousy are a different story...Let me see. Mousy started off as a need for an outside influence in Azaria and Jacob (Samos and Kai). Someone who knew about the world and could act as a sort of mentor. Robin still fits that role...but in a different way. Their core elements are pretty similar. They're etheric beings with a flying ship that harbors a lot of weirdos and they themselves are weird. Mousy was influenced by zany wizard-like characters like Willy Wonka and various Studio Ghibli characters (with a steampunk feel). She was weird and sometimes it was difficult to see if she could be trusted behind her wacky nature....and that was all to her. Mousy never really had established a very strong emotional connection to anyone, not even to the main characters of the story.
Over the years I wanted to put less emphasis on her odd behavior and more to her mysterious side. She slowly became more defensive, more self-driven and a more no-nonsense lady. (She somehow became a bit tsundere?? as well??) The changing of her aesthetic and outward personality is as just as long of a story.
So as she became more aloof and unwilling to establish emotional attachments, there came the arc of learning TO establish such things. For the first time EVER she becomes attached to the well being to Samos and Kai (the main components to her mission) and begins to love them??? AND idk man it brings a tear to my eye to have this girl be surrounded by people she cares about cause for years I didn't let her have that.
(also wtf is with that thing on her head is that a hat??? what is thaT???)
