Memo:
Canada, like so many places in the world, has astounding natural wonders, resources, and communities.
But, too often these irreplaceable treasures have been exhausted to the brink of ruin and extinction, traded for a pittance.
As my Gaffer used to say, “Money is only paper. They print more of it every day." Then, added, “And, it isn’t even paper, anymore.”
Canada's sense of self-identity has been as a Socialist Deomocracy and Multicultural society; and, a Constitutional Monarchy, within the Commonwealth of Nations
Although, as Pierre Trudeau (1919 – 2000), Prime Minister of Canada [1968-79, 1980-84], famously said, Canada is not unaffected by events in the US,
“Living next to you [the US] is in some ways like sleeping with an elephant. No matter how friendly and even-tempered… one is affected by every twitch and grunt.”
After the Shamrock Summit, the Mulroney Government and Harper Governments, and the cutbacks to social programmes in the 80’s and '90's, Canada developed more interests in mining, GMO’s, and Tar Sands, despite their costs to limited glacial watersheds;
Often betraying the environmental concerns, social justice, and treaty rights, which many Canadians consider prima facie as part of the Canadian identity.

If paper was made of Hemp, a grass that a person can literally watch growing, in a season; instead of trees, that a person probably won’t live to see grow to maturity; maybe, it would actually be worth something; instead of such a waste. Now, in Canada, some of the bills are plastic.

One of my Geography teachers said if water was properly assessed and valued, simply in terms or limited resources, it would be worth more than a single drop of oil, wrung out of the oil sands, or slouched out of the earth, by fracking.

Sometimes it’s hard not to feel overwhelmed by the beauty in the universe;
And, helpless, when others don’t value it.
