Introducing The Windigo, Page 11-

This is a continuation of the story of Cassie Greenaway, a.k.a. “The Windigo”, from Introducing The Windigo, Page 2 -Page 3,  Page 4, Page 5, Page 6, Page 7, Page 8,  Page 9, and Page 10.

Cassie Greenaway was a Grad Student, specializing in Companion Planting, specifically The “Three Sisters”,  from Native American cultures, when a rival student contaminated her lab with spliced GMOs, transforming her into the “Eco-Terrorist” the media have dubbed “The Windigo”.

After appearing suddenly at the UN, to urge action on protecting drinking water, air quality, and treaty rights, Cassie went to see her Grandmother, Emily and her Aunt Carol, a ND.

While Cassie was recovering, her Aunt, Dr. Carol called Dr. Astor, at the Nova Clinic, for help.

Now, Dr. Astor and Liz are getting the medical bay ready, for Cassie, in the old NSI fallout shelters, below their offices, before the media or authorities get to her first.

Introducing The Windigo, Page 11:

After taking the lift down to the old NSI fallout shelters’ medical bays, Dr. Astor and Liz started getting ready to treat Cassie, a.k.a., The Windigo.

Alice, Dr. Astor’s DA [Digital Assistance] was routing their comm links, via their ID badges, through the landlines, because they were too below ground for wireless communications.

The warm, full spectrum LED lights came on as they stepped from the lift; and, the ventilation fans whirred to life.

Dr. Astor’s sister, Izzy, Dr. Ashtoreth, and  her partner, D, Dr. Alesandros, had done a lot of work upgrading the facilities, and erasing them from government databases, after they were abandoned, at the end of The Cold War.

Izzy had also put up enlarged frames from surveillance cameras.

They showed a blurry figure writing, “Je Me Souviens” [“I Remember”], on a billboard for Corps Mondial/ World Corps, in red paint, over the company’s old slogan, “Demain - Aujourd'hui” ['Tomorrow -Today'].

Dr. Astor couldn’t help but stop for a moment, every time she saw it, and remember her sister and D, with a little prayer, and a promise, "Je me souviens, ma soeur." [“I remember, sister.”]

After a series of accidents at NSI and Corps Mondial/ World Corps’ facilities, the CEO was cornered in a scrum, by media howling for answers, like “a pack of mad dogs,” [‘les chiens enrages’], as he called them.

Losing patience, he screamed at them, red in the face, before storming out, “Personne ne se souvient de rien, mais l'argent!” [“No one remembers anything, but the money!”]

Then, someone started writing over all the company’s billboards and signs, “Je Me Souviens!” [“I remember!”].

It started in Quebec City and Montreal, and then Ontario, and then all around the world.

The strangest thing was that none of the city’s traffic cams or the company’s security cameras ever captured anything but a blurry image of whoever was doing it.

And now, this strange girl, Cassie, with her unusual gifts, who people were already vilifying as an eco-terrorist, and calling ‘The Windigo’, needed their help.

"Et maintenant, nous revoilà," she sighed. ["And now, we're back."]

“Hes?” Liz put her hand on her arm.

“I never thought we’d be back here. Did you?” Hes said.

“I know,” Liz shrugged.

“Now, back to work,” she said, taking in a deep breath.

Introducing The Windigo was awarded the Writer’s Award in the Original Character Contest - WINNERS, sponsored by Disabled-dArtist.

And, I like how The Wrath of The Windigo, a scene from a “live action feature film”, turned out, for the Challenge in the style of Action Movie, hosted by Stewed-Tomatoes.
