I recently brought a Cintiq 21UX and for my first full painting with it I decided to pay homage to EDF's downright adorable mascot, Zingy. He appeared in the adverts leading up to the London Olympics but hasn't been seen since. So I like to think he's having a well-earned nap after all that dancing.
The scene is based on the first ad
and it's pretty much entirely painted by eye save for some incredibly crude tracing to help me get the positioning right.
In the process of painting this, I learnt 3 things:
1) Working in black and white and then adding colour is way trickier when your reference image doesn't have the same colour profile as your picture.
2) If switching to a standing desk set-up, proceed with caution. At the very least, make sure you have decent footwear and a comfortable high stool.
3) Wacom products are built like tanks. I've accidentally dropped the Cintiq pen countless times and it still works.
