All right, so, normally I don't do photomanipulations because, well, they end up turning less into photomanipulations and more into full scale elaborate digital art and then I STILL have to remember what stock went into it. But I was perusing this contest www.deviantart.com/journal/Unu… and one of the pictures was of fine model Danny as a Jedi and there was another fine picture of a lady who looked like I MIGHT be able to turn her into a Jedi as well, and you see...

I come from a certain era of Star Wars fans. I was born after the original trilogy, my first Star Wars was The Phantom Menace on VHS not too long after it came out on home video. I pretended to hate it because I was ten years old and the girliest of girls, but I sneakily enthusiastically watched the Clone Wars and pretended I was into it for the romance and then I was hooked. I became a Star Wars fan between AotC and RotS, the looooong wait, when I was a young teenager just pushing into the world of science fiction and fantasy for the first time. I lived in the EU. I read literally every book I could get my hands on. A sequel to Star Wars without Mara Jade, Jaina and Jacen Solo... it's not my Star Wars. The Force Awakens might have been fabulous fun but it is not my Star Wars. It was a kick in the gut to have it all thrown out. I might enjoy the Star Wars yet to come but it is not my Star Wars, I will never forget my Star Wars, because if it weren't for my Star Wars I wouldn't be writing, I probably wouldn't live in Winnipeg with the fabulous cowriter by my side that I have today, because it was that EU, fanfictions from that time, that pulled us together.

I'm older now. I'm way more critical. I doubt I'd love the EU if I read it today. But memories are something worth cherishing, and a couple of the pieces of stock available for the contest inspired me to do a small piece to commemorate that.

Jedi don't go lightly.

I will not forget, and I know there are many other fans in my age group, who met the same Star Wars, and loved it.

The art style is heavily influenced by the book covers from the same time period. Take a look at the New Jedi Order covers to get a sense of the coloring and art style.

Yes, I swear there are stock images in this photo, though much of it has been heavily painted over. Let's play find the stock!

As Jaina Solo, we have elandria.deviantart.com/art/Un… (contest stock image)

I'm happy to see some people loving this part of Star Wars Universe. Because it's so disapointed to look these characters cast for new movies. Well, cast in part...
Novels were a wonderful job by authors, in respect of SW. And at least characters had feels, and an excellent development of their minds.

I love the colors in this. And I agree...a Star Wars without Jaina, Jacen, Mara, Thrawn and the gang  just isn't my Star Wars. And I miss looking forward to knowing what would happen next.

Does the title have anything to do with the poem "Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night" by Dylan Thomas?  I had to memorize that one in English class.  I forgot most of it, but reading it again brings it back.

Hee, I just realized I missed an opportunity to title it "Gently, Do Not Go"

I found the poem to be an inspiration while I worked on the picture, a sort of backdrop to the feelings it gave me. For reference and inspiration:

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Haha good point XD

I remember memorizing this one, specifically.  I had a couple friends in class that were these guys that thought it was cool to be bad at school, so the only parts they memorized were "Rage, rage" so when the whole class was saying it out loud together, they were quietly mumbling til they'd say "RAGE RAGE" XD
