Day By Day by Calmality Day By Day by Calmality
yes, I am still alive! After completing a semester of college, I finally have something to show for it. ^.^

I was hesitant to put this up but I feel so bad for not getting any more artwork posted that I finally decided what the hell!

So then...here's a fact about me: I HATE doing self-portraits. ^^; It's just been something I've never been interested in and I like drawing professional looking photos, but this was an assignment in my 2D design class, so I had to.

This is a huge drawing in reality, 18x25, and it is completely made with words. It's just a repetition of "day by day" because the theme had to be something about loss and the song 'Haru Haru' by Big Bang came to mind XD
my first attempt at Typography! It was fun to learn although I think I developed arthritis ^_^;

I know the point where the hand meets my chin is hard to see but I gave up after trying to fix it...blame my camera. Anyway, enjoy!

Done in freehand, no stencil used
Medium: micron pen
Time: roughly 10 hours for penwork alone

Suggester says: "Even from afar, this piece is incredible -- but please full view, or at least read the artist comments, because otherwise you won't realize the magnitude of the work that went into this. It is incredibley detailed and intricate, a real testiment to her patience and skill with shadows."

Thank you very much for taking a look at my work! :heart: I really appreciate your thoughts.
This one is actually typography, not exactly pointillism. It's composed of words. Almost sprained my hand on this one, but I think it was worth it.

When I first saw this piece, I got a few seconds stunned with my mouth open and no word would come because my mind was totally blown away from amazement. By the way, how is your hand going?

The small thumbnail of this caught my eye and I decided to take a closer look. I was further intrigued to take a look at the larger version and I was completely blown away by the detail. Then I read your description and I was even more astounded and blown away than before. And to think that you were thinking of depriving us of this amazing piece of art. Shame on you! I am so thankful that you changed your mind! Love it and wish I could fave it over and over again.

:wow: Wow, really, your compliment made my week. Thank you so much for such kind words and thoughtful encouragement. It was a difficult piece to do, but reading comments like yours makes it worth it. Thanks again!
Next time I'll definitely reconsider if I'm debating whether to post something on DA or not. ;)

Also, I took a look at your art and you are so incredibly talented. It's so rare to find an artist that excels at so many mediums and demonstrates a full ability to seamlessly switch from equally difficult mediums like watercolor to acrylic. Beautiful work! Please keep it up! :D

Your welcome! You deserve kind words and thoughtful comments on this piece. It's not just a beautiful work of art, but I bet viewing it in the original size would evoke such emotion. I hope you get to show it in a gallery setting someday. Please make sure it gets into your portfolio.

And thank YOU for your kind words and encouragement too. I just started back to painting after 30 years away from it so I'm enjoying myself. :)

Well thank you very much! ^^
Well, when doing any image it helps a lot to work with a black and white photo. That way the color doesn't throw you off. Get a few pens of different widths to try out. I wouldn't recommend using a one tiny or one big pen for the whole thing. Then just do the lightest shades first. I actually drew pencil lines all over the reference image marking the lighting transition from light to slightly darker grays. That way you can just follow a grid system. I hope that helps! Let me know if you try it out! :D

Pencil in the areas where the color changes from dark to light. There will be many outlines. Then write the words very small and spaces out for the lighter areas, and very dark and clumped in the darker areas. Sorry, it's hard to explain in writing. ^^;

Great work! But it's kind of hard for me to see the words.

I suppose the full sized image would be to big for the screen?

It's a little blurry because it's not scanned. I had to take it with a camera because its over 18x25 in reality. I should really try to get a better quality photo. ^^;
If you download it, its a little better ^^

Exactly how large is this piece?

Thank you so much! It just takes very small micron pens and...some patience ^^;
It's a little over 18X25. Sorry for the low quality, it was taken with a camera. It's a bit too big for the scanner :XD:
