Of Serpents and Coiled Ropes

Athena goes accessorizing. I hear snake-haired heads on shields are all the rage in Athens! A take on the myth of Perseus and Medusa. I have always been fascinated by Medusa and all the variations this character has: from monster to victim and even an evil-averting talisman. Almost like people couldn't make up their mind. The model for both Medusa and Athena was MythicDeviance who also contibuted numerous ideas to the finished piece. Perseus is a combination of 3d mannequin and a load of Manowar album covers (don't laugh) and my best guesses. The inspirations behind it were mythological Greek pottery paintings, "300" and the short story "The House of Asterion" by Jorge Luis Borges.  Initially I intended to imitate the black-figure style of Ancient greek pottery, but things kind of got out of hand and started running amok willy-nilly.
