Deviants

It's time to add a contributor or two to :iconcadillacpastpresent: I've run this group for a couple of years on my own. During that time it has grown slowly and the group gets submissions every month so it is not a high maintenance group. The rules are simple, the categories are easy to use. But I think it is time to add a fresh perspective so the group doesn't get stale.

So here's what I'm looking for: First, someone who likes the Cadillac marque and can recognize (or look up) the model years to make sure the submissions go into the correct category. A contributor is able to offer invitations to join the group and I have not been very active in doing that lately. Any group needs to have new members. This group doesn't need a hundred new members every month, I would rather see it gain fewer members who are interested in Cadillac.

One thing I have not allowed are members who want to join the group and then slam in their entire gallery immediately. I have quit other groups that allow that. No one wants to see their inbox slammed with 50 or more deviations from one artist every day. That's why I turned off automatic acceptance. I generally do not allow more than 6 submissions per day from a member. On occasion I'll allow one or two more, but if there's more than that they will be added at 6 per day.

The group does not allow anything but Cadillac or LaSalle related submissions. If it isn't clearly a Cadillac or LaSalle, it doesn't belong here, although one idea I've had was to add a category like "Cadillac's Major Competitors in the 1920s" or something like that. It would have to be controlled, it is not meant to allow people to post Chevrolets and Fords or even Buicks, but strictly for competing 1920s marques like Packard, Peerless, Pierce-Arrow, Lincoln, Duesenberg. It could be a featured category, meaning fewer submissions would be allowed, selected on the basis of quality of photography as well as the subject's ability to compete in the Cadillac market.

I'm open for ideas from the new contributors and we can agree to change the rules and try other ideas. We can reorganize the categories, maybe raise the submission limit to 10. I have not done any contests or promotions and if the new contributors want to test these or any other good ideas, we will run them and see what happens. The group today is 116 members. It doesn't seem outrageous to think that a Cadillac group could be double or even triple in size and not lose its focus.

I am offering two contributor positions and hopefully some existing members would like to become involved. Since I have decided to concentrate on my new career as an author of books, there has not been enough time for me to keep the group fresh and exciting. There is also the probability that I will transition out of the group and possibly out of deviantart for various reasons and if there were contributors who would like to take over I will hand it off. I like the group, I like Cadillac and even though my personal favorites are more in the Mopar lineup I like almost all cars and trucks.

Take a moment to look over the group's rules, keeping in mind that we can make reasonable changes as long as the focus is on Cadillac/LaSalle. If interested please reply by sending a note to the group or me personally. It may take me a couple days to get back to you but I hope to add contributors in the next week or two.

Hello!

I'm a big fan of vintage Cadillacs (1930s) and I draw them... but it's in living-machine form. I didn't see anything against this in your rules, nor anything for it. Is it okay to submit?

Here's the artwork in question, please feel free to let me know if it's okay or not to allow in:

Thank you!!

Yes, please submit it and any other Cadillac images! A new category might be in order to encourage more art.

I just submitted it to your "Cadillac/La Salle Art" folder... hope it's okay.

And yes! I think that'd be a great idea. I draw Cadillacs a lot so... at least I'm up for such an idea! Thank you again for letting it in!

Yes that is the correct folder. I like to see, and comments from others indicate there is interest in Cadillac or LaSalle art in a wide variety of formats. I'm up for suggestions for more categories. My guideline is that if the main artwork (drawing, photo, model etc.) predominately features Cadillac or LaSalle in a recognizable way, it is eligible for the group. I've turned down submissions where the art was so distorted that it was not clearly a Cadillac, and one time for a photo of a large group of 20 or so cars but there was only one Cadillac, and that was barely visible in the background.

There is also a folder for Cadillac-Allard cars (aka Cad-Allard), these were race cars with Cadillac motors. While that may be a stretch as the cars did not look like Cadillacs, they are well known historically notable automobiles featuring the Cadillac brand i.e. the motor. I also accept late model Cadillac race cars, there was a racing series for touring cars and the factory sponsored some of the entries, and some did very well.

I work part time in the office at a restoration shop located at Sonoma Raceway. They restore vintage automobiles, mostly race cars, and provide track support for vintage racing. It's fun to be around those old beauties. Fun story clip: I drive a 1999 Ford Taurus and she's a wonderful car. One time a customer parked his 427 Cobra next to her and I swear I saw her flirting with him!

Of course I looked at your page and followed it, because I'm a history nut. I write historical fiction and read at least 50 books a year. The largest section in my library (after automobiles) is about ships. I read history and historical fiction novels about ships, captains and crews, admirals and others from the mid 1600s through World War 2. I'm especially interested in the American Revolution through the Napoleonic Wars, then WWI and WWII. I've done the O'Brien, Forester and other series. Funny that I enjoy reading about warships but hate war. I think what I am attracted to is the human challenges, the slice of life stories of those eras. But I also like reading about non-warships. One of the best I've read about passenger ships is Transatlantic by Stephen Fox. He describes transAtlantic passenger ships and the life at sea on passenger ships from the age of sail, the emergence of steam and the international competition for the fastest transAtlantic ships and the people and politics of it, including Cunard, Brunel and ships of all nations that were in it. Probably all stuff you know, but for me it was very educational without being the least bit dull or stuffy. Such lavish interiors!

I also like the Cars movies and my fave is Doc (how can anyone not like Paul Newman as a Hudson Hornet?) Guido and Luigi in the tire store are the funniest (Mater is good but I think a bit overdone), the old lady car (can't remember her name) is a sweet old gal, and Sarge the Jeep. Actually, they are all pretty good, even the bad guys. I'm old enough to have rode all the way from Chicago to California on Route 66 with my grandparents back in the 1960s and when I see photos of it, I often can truthfully say "I've been there!"

That's a good catch! Hard to tell exactly, but it does appear to be a Cadillac. I also like seeing the driver in the photo, he is wearing a duster in an effort to keep his clothes somewhat clean. Automobiling was an adventure in those days!
Thank you for posting this gem. I've requested it for the CadillacPastPresent group.
