Tinkerbell trapped by cabroon Tinkerbell trapped by cabroon
Aaaaaand finally!! A new post! This week was terrible, computer crashed, didn´t save… the day after that, they cut the electricity, didn´t save. Lost my progress twice. The mantra for this week is “save often”!!!!
I´m on a fairy row!!
A very possible scenario.
There are lots of “spider peril” pics out there. This idea has been circling my thoughts for a long time. I wanted to portray the sense of terror and helplessness that must be crossing tinkerbell´s mind while being captured by a “monstrous” garden spider.
I searched the web for inspiration trying to find the perfect perspective and depth to communicate the –use Mr. Smith voice- inevitability of tink´s fate.
The inspiration came from the pic “arachnophobia” by gamera 1985. Go check it.
Imagine the precise moment she crashes into the web, an instant of WTF, followed by a gasp, shortness of breath upon realizing where she is, oh no , oh no, oh no, oh no, oh no, no please no, she thinks-, heart racing at 200 per minute, she looks at the web strings, so thin and silky, so sticky, yet so resistant. She tries to break free. With each movement she gets ensnared more and more in the sticky threads . Each struggle signaling through vibrations that dinner is ready.
The spider is the perfect bondage predator created by nature, cold and inexpressive, in a split second it falls over its prey, surrounding her, no escape, no use for screaming. First disabling the means of escape to secure the catch, some web strings around the wings, arms and legs, fighting becomes a very futile struggle with each web spun around her. Wings stop fluttering, Her movement reduced to a grub-like motion. The final struggles will be dealed with in no time, a small bite, some neurotoxin… waiting until it kicks in, watching how her strength abandons her, how she loses control of her body, how her muscles gradually cease responding, …
The wonderful thing about web is its design by nature: thin but very resistant. I took research seriously and read some articles about spiderweb. I tried to portray web strings as a silky-thin-traslucid thread, not as a gooey thick blob that is usually drawn like. It also took some research time with layers and filters to get that effect. Hope it was worth it.
I hope the spider is scary enough. Very satisfied with the background, wanted to transmit the sensation that the forest was helping the spider to catch tinkerbell, and if the spider failed, the forest would finish the job. ...Next time I´ll use bigger leaves to show accurate scale. Used some tree and leaves brushes that I found on DA.Credit to :iconredheadstock:

The original title was "Fairies can´t scream" since in the original movie, tinkerbell was mute. Then I remembered about the new tinkerbell series where she talks, so goodbye title. Couldnt think of a better one. Any suggestions?
Does anyone reads this?

This would be pretty sexy if it weren't for the spider...

Tinker Bell has always been a bondage victim in my imagination. Let's  be honest:  she's drawn kinda hot in that mini-dress.  Just saying.

Is it strange that the part that really stands out (and disturbs me) is that the spider has four jaws?
cabroon Featured By Owner Oct 19, 2015  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Google "pedipalps"...
JoeMavro Featured By Owner Oct 20, 2015  Hobbyist General Artist
I know "pedipalps" they are supposed to look like legs, not jaws. Only a spider enthusiast like me would point that out though, so don't feel bad. The picture really is remarkable.

Thanks!! And... Yep. Shame on me. I consider myself a moderate spider enthusiast and I got that one wrong. :(
But you know what really, reallly, reaaaaaallllyyy bothers me????
When they show a picture or a movie of a spider "barfing" spiderweb. Haven´t they read about spinnerets? (I dont remembrer if that´s how you write it)
The only movie that kind of got it right was lord of the rings, when frodo is properly wrapped by shelob. But they ruined it by stinging frodo with a stinger coming from shelobs tail.... it should have been a fang bite.

Actually she should be able to break out easily. That's because unlike bugs she has hands.  She can rip through the net. Even large bugs like bees and wasps can't The praying mantis has no problem with spiders and preys on them because his extremities are movable like arms and legs and can rip through the gossamer net. Tinkerbell can do the same. The web is not a net. it can't hold her. The danger of giant webs like the danger of quicksand is vastly overrated.

Is there an animal talent fairy around? Heard they work with insects, though. But if they can work with insects, they can work with spiders.

I really love how Tinkerbell's body looks as a whole. The pose, her legs, her breasts, and most particularly her head and expression are excellent.

Too bad spiders only have 8 legs...

Remember though, we see Tink burn right through spider webs and green leaves during a scene in the first Peter Pan movie.

The spider may have the upper hand, but only until Tink gets good and mad. Then it's spider flambe.
