Tagged by WHATiFGirl who requested some facts on this demanding squishy fella, Booker.

Bookrcollage by caat

1. Booker (and WYM as a story) was created in 2005, three years before Kyler came into existence. Booker's original human companion wasn't interesting to work with for me and WYM was shelved until I could design one that was.

2. Booker's original voice was going to sound like Bob Hoskins! It was actually JonCausith who suggested the idea of Booker sounding nasally and higher pitched along with his audition for WYM.

3. Booker's name is derived from Kyler's dad calling Kyler a 'nosy bugger' when he was a child, and the latter word sounding different as a result of his dad's accent. This is also why Booker has a large nose.

4. Booker is an imaginary friend, however he is tangible, audible and visible to everyone. Is this more or less awkward than having an intangible one, I wonder...

5. Booker's physiology is undefined by logic and its nearest description is 'toon-like'. He is resistant to impacts but can still feel pain. He sinks in water. He doesn't suffer from muscle tiredness and could hang on to something indefinitely.

6. Booker can remember everything he and Kyler did together while he was a child, as if Booker himself had been alive.

7. Booker is usually very happy and optimistic, but occasionally struggles with insecurity, aware of his lack of existence prior to the events of WYM. He sometimes laments the past, and gets frustrated with the quite literal connection between himself and Kyler.

8. Booker and Kyler's best friend Greg have a difficult relationship through most of the series, mainly from Booker considering Greg a 'friend stealer' and acting obnoxious towards Greg as a result (though at times Greg gives as good as he receives, much to Kyler's horror)

I can't think of that many people who use DA any more that I could tag buuut...

A video talking about my experiences with the year, and what comes next.

Ready For Duty by caat

Part 4 of WYM episode 1 is almost ready! To the extent that I can be reasonably confident about a broadcast date.

The compiled edition date is still a little iffy, because I want to clean up a few things in earlier parts, and also generate closed captions for the video.

Animatics and commentary bonus materials for part 4 will also be online at a later date. In the case of the latter, whenever the house is quiet enough for me to make them.
Pretty much all I use this journal for these days. :B
Tagged by megamanzero262

1.) What game got you into gaming?
Hmmm... Pacman? My faves were Stampede and Wizard of Wor, but I figure just playing on the Atari 2600 in general got me interested.
2.) What is your favorite food?
Super hard to say, but Italian food has a special place in my heart...and my stomach.
3.) Your least favorite video game character?
American Kirby? American Kirby was a jerk. :I
4.) What are your thoughts on negativity/hate on the internet?
Like negativity/hate anywhere, it is an unecessary and destructive thing which should be stopped, but it really is in the hands of those delivering that sort of response to stop themselves.
5.) What's your favorite video game theme, at the moment?
Not sure I quite understand what you mean by 'theme' but I'm pretty much open to a variety of styles and ideas if they're fun to play.
6.) How do you feel about Capcom discontinuing Megaman?
Mostly indifferent, but not surprised. Y'know, what with the whole "business over art" dealie.
7.) Your favorite drink?
Water. XD (Though I recently drank some raspberry lemonade that was real good)
8.) Your opinions on original and fan/parody?
Parody stuff is fun, but I have mixed feelings about it. People use it as a fast track to get noticed, and the more parody stuff there is out there, the harder it is for original works to be seen.
9.) Your favorite professional artist/author?
I don't really know...
10.) Your favorite game, at the moment?
Codename S.T.E.A.M - and that's just from playing the demo over and over. The Wonderful 101 has been pretty awesome too.

2014 was a year of high emotional demands from immediate family. My art proved to be very theraputic during these times, as well as dealing with my ongoing personal concerns.

2015 for me is about “making it”. Not in the success sense, not in the career goals sense, just in getting from day to day. 2015 is about survival, but in a way that involves appreciating the beauty of every moment. I take on the new year no differently than the year before - with determination, intent and a hope that my work may positively influence those who see it. I want to tell stories - I want that passion I have for my stories to be infectious, to make others grow enthused to create the worlds in their minds.

There are better times ahead, but we’re going to have to get through some very challenging stuff to reach them. I don’t know if I’m prepared, but I’m sure as anything going to try my best.

In the meantime, I'm curious to know if there are any NS projects you're looking forward to seeing more of.

0 - Note: These questions must be answered in character.
I was tagged by :iconblazingcoral:

1 - What's your name?
I'm Booker - nice to meet'cha!

2 - Do you know why you were named that?
To be honest, the memory's kinda hazy, y'know? I mean, I wasn't exactly around when Birdy was a least not like I am these days...but I think it was inspired by something his dad used to call him now and then. Yeah, I'm as stumped on that one as you are.

3 - Are you single or taken?
Like in, relationships? No thanks! Even if I was into that sorta thing, it'd get kind of weird what with being hooked into Birdy's brain and all... ^^;

4 - Have any abilities or powers?
Man I've got a ton! I can stay under water for, like, FOREVER. I can teleport! Okay, so it's not something I got much control over, but...OH, get this. Some guys can throw their voice - well I can throw my burps! Now that's pretty cool, right?

5 - Stop being a Mary-Sue!
You can't put the dampers on perfection. *wiggles eyebrows*

6 - What's your eye color?
Y'know I think they're just black. Yeah, black dots. Don't blame me - Birdy wasn't one for attention to detail when he was a kid. Can you believe he didn't even give me ears? Or a belly button?

7 - What about hair color?
Purple, like plums! Plums are pretty good...

8 - Have you any family members?
Birdy and Trish are pretty much my family!

9 - That's cool, I guess. Now tell me something you don't like. Why does such a nasty drink exist? Whyyyy~?

10 - Do you have any hobbies/activities you like to do?
I just LOVE to roleplay! On my own, with other people, I don't care - roleplay is awesome. You can be anyone, anywhere! Making movies is pretty awesome too. I film stuff and put it on the internet!

11 - Have you hurt anyone in any way before?
I...I probably have. I don't always think before I say stuff, y'know? Birdy's got pretty mad at me a few times.

12 - Ever... killed anyone before?
I killed a lotta space monsters in video games. Look, it had to be done, they were trying to enslave the universe!

13 - What kind of animal are you?
I'm a troon! I'm...not quite sure what that is, exactly, but that's what Birdy said I was, so there ya go!

14 - Name your worst habits.
Ehehe...I tend to think way too hard at night when I'm supposed to be falling asleep.

15 - Do you look up to anyone at all?
I look up to everyone, I'm a foot high! Hahaha! But seriously, I admire Birdy for sticking it out this long without me. His life's been pretty sucky up to this point, from what I can tell.

16 - Are you gay, straight, or bisexual?
None of them!

17 - Do you go to school?
Nope, never been to that place, thankfully! Don't get me wrong, I love to learn, but sitting at a desk writing in books all day seems super boring to me, y'know? Like a kid version of what Birdy's doing now, even!

18 - Ever wanna marry and have kids one day?

19 - Do you have any fangirls/boys?
I got a good few fans on the internet for all those videos I posted. Birdy's dream projections are pretty entertaining, heheh!

20 - What are you most afraid of?
What'll happen when the thing that brought me here stops working...

21 - Okay. What do you usually wear?
A yellow t-shirt and blue shorts! They're pretty lousy in super cold weather though.

22 - What's your most favorite food?
You can't do this to me! You can't make me choose! There is too much food that is good~

23 - Am I annoying you?
No way, I love chatting!

24 - Well, it's still not over!
Woohoo! Ask away.

25 - What class are you? Low, middle, or high?
I'm in a class of my own - I call it 'Awesome Class'

26 - How many friends do you have?
Well there's Birdy, and Trisha, and I guess Stuart counts...oh, and Phil, though he's more of an internet buddy. Hm!

27 - What are your thoughts on pie?
Mmmmm...what flavour? Oh who cares, all pie is great! Unless it's steak and a pie...that's just icky!

28 - Favorite drink?
Not-coffee. That a good enough answer for ya?

29 - What's your favorite place?
The beach! All that sand and water in one place. The warm sunshine. And ice cream! Hoh, I wanna go there now.

30 - Are you interested in anyone?
I'm interested in EVERYONE. No really, people are fascinating! Though I don't always 'get' them.

31 - Would you rather swim in a lake or the ocean?
Well to be honest, you can find equally cool things in lakes and oceans...

32 - What's your type?
Type of person? Anyone who isn't a party Mister Greenhouse-for-brains. I love a guy or gal with a sense of humour! If you can't laugh at life once in a while, you ain't ever gonna have fun.

33 - Camping or indoors?
CAMPING! You can sit outside and gaze at the stars with a little fire and cook marshmallows over it... well I suppose we could do that on the balcony too, but... trees! Squirrels! All that good nature stuff! I would kinda miss the internet though.

34 - Are you still wanting this quiz to end?
No no, keep going!

35 - Well, it's over!
Awww... okay.

(That was way too much fun, thanks BC! XD )

Wym-patreonpromo by caat

Hey everyone,

I’ve set up a Patreon in order to try and bring in some funds while I continue work on WYM (and Outcast Hero, but I can’t really ask for support on that since it won’t be seeing the light of day for a LONG time). For those curious as to the reasons behind this decision, as well as info on the Patreon itself you can find out more here.

I understand if you either can’t or don’t wish to support this project financially. However, I would really appreciate it if you shared this link. Visibility is half the battle with getting stuff like this off the ground - the more people that see it, the greater chance I have of finding patrons.

For those interested in pledging, don’t forget to read the text thoroughly so you know how the system works.

Thanks again! And thank you to those who have pledged so far.

UPDATE 18/07/14 :
1. What music inspires you the most in your art?
Soundtracks and instrumental stuff gives me the brain space to form new ideas, and the emotional impetus as well, since they're often written with emphasising an existing emotion on screen.

2. What brought you to DA and why are you still here?
I think I found DA by following the account link of a Pokemon fanfic writer whose work I really liked at the time. I took one look at the interface, was overwhelmed and didn't touch my newly made account for a year after that, haha!

3. What's your FAVORITE thing to draw or write about or craft?
Judging by my run of projects, I do enjoy writing about major changes in characters' lives, learning to adapt and such, sometimes with secret identities thrown in. Generally, I really enjoy exploring interactions between characters, seeing how one plays off another.

4. What are your goals for your craft? Where do you want your talents to be and take you in 10 years?
I tend to take things as they come. I don't know what my life will be like in ten years. I'm still trying to convince myself that ten years ago was 2004! So everything I work on is ongoing. I have definitely come a long way both emotionally and in creative skills in the past ten years, so I'll keep persisting at what I'm making, and see where the persistence takes me.

5. You can only choose one: Popularity for mediocre art, or obscurity for beautiful art. Which do you choose?
The latter, definitely the latter. Mediocre art doesn't really make its presence felt on your brain in a meaningful way quite as much as the other kind, no matter now popular it is.

6. Do you believe in anything supernatural (ghosts, aliens, fairies etc.)?
I believe in the existence of spirit creatures, and I don't rule the possibility of aliens out.

7. Where would you say your "happy place" is? (ie: your bed, a beautiful garden, the beach..?)
I really do love walking through woodland, but I also love walking along cliffs. So I guess 'walking in nature' might be considered my happy place. I am also extremely happy when involved in my project worlds.

8. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
There's a little adventure inside of me, I think if the world was a less dangerous and cruel place, I would explore it a bit more. Like, hiking style. Specific places? Vancouver mebbe.

9. Do you know how wonderful and awesome you are :) (Smile)?
Some people tell me this, and I think I'm doing pretty dern well with my lot in life. Thank you!

10. This is a little selfish, but whose your favorite character of my project The Taffetas so far? :>
Ooooh I really want to pick one but I don't really feel like I know enough of the characters' personalities in the context of their story/world yet to be able to pin a favourite. And even if I did, would I be able to pick a fave then either? This seriously isn't a cop out - I have difficulty picking favourites from my own casts as well. I think design wise, I find Elena's design fascinating. The whole semi-transparent eyelids thing and stuff.

Rules Schmools...I'm a rebel. Ha, not really - I'm just lazy.
If you want to do this the proper way and not the 'me' way, check out the origins of this question meme at JacksonMunch 's journal, where I was tagged from.

1) Who is your Favorite Comedian? : As TV comedians go, I don't think I have one any more. Though a lot of my friends can make me laugh, so they're all my favourite comedians instead.

2) What is your secret shame? : I don't think I'm ashamed of anything bar social issues I could have handled better when I was in my early twenties, but I do wish I could be a bit bolder and speak my mind more in some cases.

3) Who were your artistic influences? : Albert Uderzo to an extent, as I was enthralled with the Asterix comics as a child. Also my big sis MaggieStar

4) What made you interested in my work? : Well the first thing I saw of yours was an animated short through DA's video feature. I was taken with the expressiveness of the animation - I've been hanging about ever since.

5) Do you think DA is going out of style? : Not really. DA is a community just like Facebook or Twitter or any other social network. They have their own aesthetic and attract their own kinds of inhabitants. I'm not sure any one place is in style more than another - though I've not really been the type of person to know what's in style.

6) What art books do you have? : I do have a lovely book of colour key art from Pixar movies. Oh yes, and a book of SolomonMars concept artworks.

7) Did you want to do something else before you became an artist?  : I used to want to work in a library when I was 7, heheh... it doesn't really go beyond that. I've never really had long term aspirations - ideas have presented themselves and I've pursued them as they've happened.

8) What is your favorite Youtube channel? : Probably AntonyC 's considering how many chuckles the content gets out of me. I do enjoy some of JonTron's stuff though, and Cinema Sins is a bit of a guilty pleasure.

9) What is your least favorite fandom? : I am in no position to judge any group of fans, to be honest. There are bad parts and good parts in all of them.

10) What was your best/worst experience at a con? : Getting a commission of Kyler and Booker from a cartoonist who works for the Beano was pretty awesome. She seemed like a nice person and I loved her art style!
Certain friends have been having a crappy time on Tumblr, and it is a real shame. Every internet community has its dark side - problem is, once you find it, it's ruined your experience of the community entirely. Case in point, my time on Newgrounds was VERY short. That being said, I shall post another life update here, for the people that don't have accounts on Tumblr.

WYM01-02 is in its clean up phase. Outcast Hero is on the back-burner *whistle* and Rebirth is getting a spot of attention on the side. Outcast Hero hits its 8th year in production next Tuesday!

I'm participating in a 10km walk for Marie Curie Cancer Care this weekend - if you're able to contribute by sponsoring, that'd be awesome, and if not I'm hoping to video the experience and share that with you all. unfortunately the site doesn't accept Paypal, but if you'd like to donate using Paypal I can still take the donation and I'll mark it down on the page as an 'offline' donation. Note me for Paypal email.
(Well whaddya know. Say you're not going to post another journal in a while and you end up posting one. XD)

If you find a project you’re doing for fun is starting to become painful, you need to start assessing why before all drive to work on that project dies out.

This has happened to me several times with projects in the past, and it started happening with WYM recently. I really want to bring this story to you guys, but I began focusing too much on aspects that -while add a great touch to the overall piece- are not exactly vital to understanding the piece as a whole.

So I’m going to release the episode parts as polished as I can make them with my own two hands. Later I will focus on adding that extra shine. :)

With that said, WYM 1-1 shall be going live at Niftihalo Studios video (or should I say Vimeo *eyebrow wiggle*) home this weekend! It’s about time we got this show on the road~

Coffee by caat
That's all for the updates. Feel free to read on if you want to see the question things I answered from people.

This one's from roketto-neko

My questions:
1. What is your favorite video game? : The Mario Kart franchise is one that's always pulling me back. ¦D
2. Are you into email or snail mail? : Hmmm... if pushed I would say 'snail mail' because as fast and convenient e-mail can be, there's something really special about receiving physical items through your door.
3. Are you a teacher's pet or school outcast? : Um... neither? I didn't suck up to the teachers but I tried to get to know them as human beings rather than education delivery modules. It would irk me that most of the other students in the class really didn't value the time/effort these people put in to educating (or at least trying to, given the class idiots) us.
4. Favorite animal? : I love many many animals but the three top favourites are definitely cats, birds and turtles
5. Favorite sport? : Swimming
6. Worst moment? : Well one of them was trying to sleep the night in one of those fold back garden bed-chair things in a cold conservatory of a great aunt I didn't know, whose house I swear was haunted. Also the conservatory roof leaked. Yeah, I didn't really sleep a wink.
7. Best moment? : Recently a super awesome moment was watching "We Are Aliens", a 360 degree projected movie inside of a planetarium at the National Space Centre. It really blew me away.
8. Youngest or oldest (or neither) child in family? : I am the youngest
9. Favorite show? : At the moment? Steven Universe
10. Favorite time of the day? : Seems to be any time after 8pm because I can never seem to get myself to bed unless I'm falling apart, hahaa...

and now one from Robo-Shark

1) Tell me a bit about yourself! Hobbies, interests, favorite things to do?
My biggest hobbies are writing, drawing and animating, or at least the things I dedicate most of my creative time to. I love to play video games, though I don't really have time for it these days. Current consoles of choice are the 3DS and Ouya. I also love to explore the island I live on through 1-3 day trips - woodland and seaside walks are my fave.

2) What's your favorite animal?
Answered this one in my previous question thing. ¦D

3) What's your favorite movie, video game, and tv show? Books and comics are good too!
I think my fave movie is 'Cats Don't Dance', though 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit' comes close. I'm currently reading the Dragonback series by Timothy Zahn which is about a teen boy who ends up helping out a stoic dragon-looking symbiote alien warrior. Said alien has to ride around on the boy as a living tattoo. Pretty awesome reading so far. Haven't really had a chance to read that many comics lately...

4) What is your favorite piece in your gallery?
Hmmm... I'm real picky about a lot of my own art but I'm still quite proud of this 'un.
Hot Cocoa by caat

5) Why are you watching me?
If I remember rightly it was a clickthrough from that plush you made for Jovian. I've been impressed by your skills in custom crafts and drawing, and you're a nice guy too - I love to get to know the people who run galleries I follow if at all possible, so that was a wonderful bonus!

6) Name 3 things you are most passionate about!
Creativity, Friendships, Justice (I almost sound like a Care Bear, haha)

7) Introduce me to one of your characters (or if you don't have one, introduce a character you like from another artist)!
Caley by caat
I noticed you were following my Pokemon Rebirth Tumblr so here's a small intro to Caley Wilson, the protagonist of "Ultimatum", the story I've been revising the past three years or so.

16 year old Caley is pretty down to earth, very fond of sightseeing, a little sheltered, having not seen that much of what the dark side of the Pokeworld has to offer, tends to let his concern for others land him in complex situations. He also has quite a few tricks up his sleeves~

Post journals here? Really?

I made a WYM themed 8tracks mix the other day. If you want to hear it, go this-away.…

As for everything else, the word of the day is 'ongoing'. Or is that two words? Either way, all active projects are an in-progress affair. Outcast Hero's animatic revision is into scene 3. WYM's first episode has part 2 of 13 almost sketched up. Rebirth's revision is at chapter 28 of 35. There's no point in trying to estimate release dates because they're frustratingly amorphous.

OH - The Grumpicorn by caat
No celebrating yet, Marlon. Not that you want to...

I moved a few more videos from OH's vLog on Youtube to the Niftihalo Studios account on Vimeo. Youtube's interface is just getting steadily worse - I can't really navigate user channels any more. And forget about having comments if you don't want Google+ crammed down your throat.

That's all for now. See you in another few months, I guess. ¦D

2013 was no doubt a crazy year for me as it seems to have been for everyone. But it packed a few interesting things too:

  • I finished and publicly broadcasted the first animated installment in the Outcast Hero Universe.
  • I got to see a good friend I hadn’t seen in person for 6 years.
  • I visited my first convention.
  • I underwent keyhole surgery.
  • I met Charles Martinet!

Aiming to ramp it up a bit for 2014 and:

  • Hold auditions for VAs needed for the first ep of “W.A.T.S.O.N Your Mind?”
  • Return to the MCM Birmingham convention in March.
  • Try and get “Ultimatum : Endgame Edition” COMPLETED

It’s been nice to start to get to know some more people too. Don’t worry if you feel like you’re not connecting well enough - I’ll let you in on a secret. I don’t feel like I am half the time either. But I love to make new friends, so if you can bear with my quirks, talking about projects and the tendency to hug, I’m sure we’ll get on just fine~

My creative aims are high, but I will bear in mind my limitations. I will try not to be too hard on myself if I cannot get where I want as fast as I’d like. These are just the challenges we face. No harm in dreaming big, though!

So dream big, everyone. I want to see lots of good things from all of you this year. ;D

It’s here! It’s heeeere! “Outcast Hope” is now viewable online.

I would really appreciate it if you could share it with any fans of animation/sci-fi that you know by reblogging the Tumblr post… or the related one on Twitter. Besides it being little over a year’s worth of hard work by everyone concerned, I’d love to spread awareness of the Outcast Hero project as it regains momentum. Thanks!

Wherein I created this handy dandy presentation.

UPDATE : Animated segments are completely inked now.
In case any of youse guys wanted it...y'know...

It has actually felt pretty good getting Outcast Hope finished. With that in mind, I’d like to focus on a short term project alongside whatever long-term project is in the spotlight at the time. Problem is, all my projects have been designed as long-term endeavours.

So! I’m going to be retooling one of them into a project I can start bringing to the public sooner. Which one, you ask?

"W.A.T.S.O.N Your Mind?"

See, it feels like the right sort of climate at the moment to be broadcasting that project. But to be able to do so, I need to drastically change my ideas on how I was going to deliver it. Got to work with the resources available, after all!

Here’s my current pitch:

  • WYM would be created in minimalistic animatic-draft hybrid style. More expressive than a comic, but not quite as intensive as a full animation.
  • There would be no block colour, but coloured line art would play a role in telling the story.
  • Episodes would be divided into 5-6 minute installments for online broadcast.

Pokemon Rebirth Ultimatum’s revision will continue being worked on. Ultimatum may end up being the last Rebirth thing I create, but we’ll see. Time is going so fast these days, and I want the works I make to have benefits to those reading/watching them.

Outcast Hero maaay get temporarily returned to the vault while I address the above two projects. Don’t hold me to that though.

All other projects I’ve thought up are in permanent stasis.

For those of you who might have been considering a trip to the Bang Film Festival in Nottingham for Outcast Hope's premiere, tickets are now on sale!…

Select the "Bangimation" screening on December 1st.

P.S - If you have a 3DS, bring it along. Even if we don't talk in person, I'd like to Streetpass ya. It's a nice souvenir.

hopeDVDallaround by caat

Well, almost. I had the proof copy mailed to me today, but since the place is in America, it’ll take a week and a bit to get here.

Estimated cost of the DVD is going to be £3 (about $5) plus P&P

You’ll be able to purchase directly from the publisher, but I am also debating a ‘bonus pack’ option which will enable you to get a DVD with the extras I plan to send to benefactors.

Keep checking back here for more developments!

The block is broken. Outcast Hero is back! C:

Scene one has been re-boarded. I storyboard using thumbnails for speed. Not recommended if you're working with others who need to interpret your boards though.

ALSO! Do you live near Nottingham, or at least don't mind getting there somehow? Why not come join me and chums for Outcast Hope's premiere on December 1st at the Broadway Cinema? I'm bound to be jittery and nervous!

Bye for now~

Who's looking forward to watching Outcast Hope?

Here's an updated cover for the DVD release. Price of DVD hasn't been decided yet, but it'll contain some neat extras...if I can work out how to author a DVD properly.

outcasthope DVD copy by caat

Don't worry, there will also be an online release, but that'll be early next year.

Benefactors who donated 30 or more will get to see an advance preview of Hope in the next couple of months. They'll also get a free copy of this DVD. Just a couple of things left to finish first.
