Time for a new profile. Drew this in Manga Studio which I have only had for a little while, but love drawing in! and "coloured" in Photoshop. I say "coloured" 'cos I couldn't be bothered spending more than 5 minutes on it. ;)

Hey pal, I'm busy making a drawing for one of my customers. But I wanted to color him just as this one. With that awesome lamp effect.
I use Photoshop CS6 for coloring stuff, could you tell me how you colored it like this??

My lineart is always on a multiply layer, then I just color on a layer underneath. This was just a flat blue, with a scattered brush on a 3% opaque layer over that, then I carved out the lamp light with a white pressure sensitive pencil tool. Took 5 minutes, tops. Super easy! Hope that helps. :)

Thanks a lot for the information. But I got to tell you that I don't get it very well. It's absolutely not you're fault, but I think it's because I'm not a very talented Photoshop guy (or I'm not that good in English ^^ ). But I was wondering if you could place some sort of video on Youtube were you explain how to color it like that??
Hope you'll do!

I wish I had the capabilities to make a video like that, but I don't, unfortunately. I only ever taught myself photoshop and I'm sure I use it like a blind orangutan uses a game controller, so there must be tons of other artists out there who've posted something like that better than I could ever hope to.

Just look up 'flatting tutorial', maybe?

Allright, I get it. I'll loke for 'flattering tutorial' and hope to find what I'm looking for! But thanks a lot, pal!

What made you decide to use such straight and angular lines like on the arm and back? It looks awesome! I love the style.

It's just a side effect of how the brush tool works in Manga Studio. I wish I had that kind of control and stability with my actual work by hand! I wanted the rushed, lumpy look though to reflect how I usually feel after a day's work. Misshapen and falling apart. :)

It's entirely possible. I guess I'm too busy working to notice most of the time. :)

I guess I can see that. I just finished reading pretty much everything on your website, and I can see where you'd get pretty busy...

Nice.

I tried Manga Studio briefly but couldn't really get used to it, although I do like some of the tools it had. Now I have a really time consuming process of basic layouts in Manga Studio and the rest in Photoshop Elements. I should probably give Manga Studio another shot at some point though.

Yeah there are some things about it that are really sucky, but it's just great for speed working. I laid out 14 pages in two days with Manga Studio, and now that I've printed them out, I can light box them on to regular comic sheets, and the pencilling process has been halved, (or more) with no trial and error and endless erasing on the actual boards. Cleanest pencils I've ever done!

I don't think I'd ever change to using this for Max, but I have other ideas I wouldn't mind trying out full digital pages for. I could do 2 - 4 pages a day, full digital, depending on the detail I want to give myself. I love it.

(Did you see on Twitter, by the way, that photoshop was giving away the full version of CS2? Was that real? If so, I hope it's still out there! It's the version I already have, so I never checked the links being thrown up all over the web.)

Doing the pencils digitally is definitely a huge plus. Lots of tools (vanishing points, grids, etc) and easy to erase. I didn't think I'd go 100% digital but once I got started it just seemed to make sense for me.

I saw the Photoshop CS2 thing, it seems to have been a misunderstanding. I don't know the full details (I'm happy with Photoshop Elements 8) but Adobe tried to clarify it here:
