THE STORY SO FAR (as featured in and continued from "Roar Of Sport", 12th October 1979 edition);
As part of a team detailed to arrest TickleFight referees Traci Noselee and Cora Russett at the scene of a bout in Glasgow, Constable Wendy Villiers of Strathclyde Police "G" Division was summarily ordered by a senior officer to act in an 'uncovered undercover' capacity and remove her uniform to infiltrate the changing area which was to be used by the two women. Just as she found found an empty room and stripped to her underwear, a pair of teenage girls walked in. WPC Villiers now completes her account...
"The two teenagers - their names were Nicola and Sharon - turned out to be the corner aides for Denise McClare and Nina Willets, the competitors in that night's TickleFight. I explained my presence by telling them that given the historic nature of the contest
[It was to have been the world's first-ever TickleFight to feature two referees - Editor] the organisers had thought it prudent to have a spare aide on hand in case of emergency. To my surprise, they accepted this cobbled-up unconvincing story and I stepped out to station myself within sight of the changing room which by then had been occupied by Noselee and Russett.
As it turned out, neither of the suspects had any intention of fleeing and had no other thought but to bask in the glory of taking charge of the bout that evening, but had they planned to leave the building I inadvertently gave them the opportunity to do so immediately before the start of the contest. As the two underwear-clad TickleFighters, McClare and Willets, padded past me they were joined by their corner aides, who by now had changed into their bikinis. Nicola spotted me and said, 'You'd better come with us,' which was exactly what I didn't want because it meant I would no longer be able to observe Noselee and Russett. However, I was more-or-less propelled by the other four females down the theatre aisle to the performance space through a full house of cheering women - all of whom witnessed me wearing nothing but my underwear. I'm embarrassed about it now, but at the time I was more worried about Noselee and Russett suddenly deciding to make a last-minute break for it and I was immensely relieved when they emerged from their room and padded down the aisle.
You know the rest. Noselee and Russett were arrested before they got to the performance space. As it happened, my police instincts kicked in and I rushed to help my fellow officers detain them, but then it struck me that I was only clad in my bra and briefs and I took advantage of the distraction to slip back into the corner aides' change room and climb back into my underclothes and uniform, which I had hidden in a dusty cabinet.
Chief Superintendent [Vera] Youngs, who was largely responsible for my enforced humiliation, has since acknowledged my contribution to the operation by presenting me with a lace cami bodysuit, much to everyone in 'G' Division's amusement." (Roar Of Sport tabloid newspaper, 13th October 1979.)
