Abstract Vector - PS7 Tutorial by C130 Abstract Vector - PS7 Tutorial by C130
I should've been packing to go to Italy but I made this tutorial instead. =P

Creates 100% vector custom shapes! Scale 'em up and they never lose quality. Make a whole set of them for variety while you're working, if you like.

The only thing I can stress is that you experiment, if one thing doesn't work then something else probably will. You get different effects by using different settings or by doing different scribbles; try it out!

If you like it, please +fav it! :D

And don't re-post it anywhere else unless I've given you permission to, or I'll strike you down where you stand. ...with a Bezier curve. :p

awesome but i found out a way to make it a brush well i use cs3 so the layer at the end where you already have your shape saved and you drew it again to test it out the layer on your layer pallete comes out like this strangepurple thing well create a new layer a transperent layer and but it under the layer that you had with the shape and you chose the shape layer and merge it down then you jut ctrl click the preview image beside the layer and edit>define brush preset and you save it :0 this was proably hard to understan so if you have any problems ask me

Maybe a helpful hint...I found that you can do (i think) the same thing is fewer steps by drawing something, using the magic wand to find the edges, making a work path, and then using the pen tool to make the shape. I'm not sure if this allows the same options in what shapes you can make with it, but you can give it a try.

That way sounds fine for very simple shapes, but it won't be very helpful if you're trying to make vectors out of more complex base images... for example drawings or photographs. Also I think Select Colour Range may give a neater edge than the wand, but I suppose that depends what setting it's at.

Thanks for the tip though. ;)

Great! Really glad you enjoyed the tut! :)

BTW you can apply a similar technique as I illustrated here to convert photographs into vectors, if you're interested - I'm going to put out another tutorial soon that shows how to do that.

Awesome tut!

Is there any way to get that same affect without having to make a new shape tool? i.e. Just do it to a sketch?

Not entirely sure what you mean. :o

If you mean turning a scanned drawing or line-art into a vector shape, you should take the line-art (needs to be very high-resolution, like above 1000x1000 or it'll just end up looking pixelly) then put the contrast away up high so the lines are really black and sharp and the background is really white. The go to Select --> Colour Range and select the black, and finish the tut from there.

And please do reply if I gave you some irrelevant advice. :P
