This looks wonderful! That is some amazing texture on the fur, and I love the detail on the clasp so much. Thank you so much for this; I love the way it turned out.
Sorry it isn't really "armor" but all I could think of was the old Thundarr the Barbarian cartoons. 
Which probably is not too far off from what he would actually wear, to be honest. They tend to have more fur and leather than metal, after all. He especially is known for always wearing a fur from a beast he's killed because, he's just that way.

Initial draft makes me think of the attack-dog training suits.

Although I can be overly meticulous at times. I draw something and spend a long while at it, then later end up covering it up with something else.
I know what you mean. What I tend to do is make a sketch in my sketchbook, then scan it and use it as a base for my digital work.
