Original design for a classic Mediterranean style home with influences from 1920's era American Mediterranean and the rustic Tuscany style version popular here now. The Tuscan aspect is the rustic stonework. For budget purposes, it's desirable to limit stonework to the most important and visible views of a luxury home. Also, I always follow my rule of "light over heavy,) so stone work stays towards the bottom, with lightweight stucco above. "Real" stone over frame, as done here, is about 8 inches thick, while stucco is about 1 inch thick, both over a 2x6 wood stud frame, so the stone part of the wall is wider. The molding creates a transition point between materials. Roofing is ceramic barrel tile at a 4/12 pitch. Plenty of "wrought iron," (actually painted or powder coated steel,) including the rail system and gates.

This a re-working of my old House #309, improved and more dramatic.

Technique: Pencil study with 3H to 2B pencils on 8 and a half by 11 inch paper, scanned and slightly tweaked and cleaned up, and labeled with GIMP software. There's a floor plan in my gallery.

Well, I have to say, not too many people here are asking for Bulgarian style homes. Maybe I should start a new trend?

Well why not?The style is influenced by Eastern Roman and oriental motifs, but I must say it manages to keep ALOT of what makes it unique.Alot of westerners seem to think so too, buying them houses like crazy!

[link] For example, Rila monastery is an excellent and unique architectural gem in Bulgaria. Not well known in the west, but nonetheless, with it's polychrome masonry, it's a beauty. Not easy to do a house design following this style...

Paige met the director of personnel for St Francis yesterday. He's building something on North Main. He claimed he "stole the plans" from the internet and, with great friction, he's pushing the builder to just build it. Supposedly it has four turrets or something. Lots to think about in the facts above he he...
