These spiral bevel gears are arranged to rotate freely along a spherical surface. This image shows 92 gears (32 large blue gears plus 60 small red gears) arranged on the faces of the dual of a geodesic dome.

I haven't given up on producing an animated version of your concept.
I based my initial feasibility study, instead, on a buckyball with 92 gears. (I think one of us is wrong about gear count.)
Getting the gears to mesh, properly, was half calculation and half luck. (Okay, maybe 75% luck!)
92 Gears - Feasibility Study
Your model inspired me to give it a go. Thanks!

Oops, my total was correct, but my blue count was only including the larger blue gears, which was clearly wrong. There are actually two different sizes of blue gears in my model: 20 large bue gears and 12 small blue gears. Now I have made the correction. Anyway, congratulations on figuring out how to mesh the teeth together quite nicely.
