Chapter 67: The Sacrifice

A man in a navy kimono, with long blue-black hair tied up in a high ponytail, pushed forward and collapsed on the ground at the edge of the cliff, clenching his fingers into the dirt. He stared hollowly at the black chasm blow. He knelt over, beating his fist on the ground as he cried out, “RISA! NOOO!”

Almost afraid that Chang Ruichi might jump after his sister, Mayura placed a hand on his sleeve, as he screamed and howled his twin’s name over and over again, voice drowned out by the deafening roar of the rapids below. Pushing her away, Chang Ruichi sat up golden eyes dilated. He turned around and grabbed Hayashi’s bare throat with muddy hands, face contorted in rage. “You killed her. You killed Risa.”

Hayashi did not respond as the fingers clenched tighter.

“Bring her back! Bring my sister back!” exclaimed Ruichi, shaking Hayashi. “BRING HER BACK!”

“Ruichi—stop it!” exclaimed Mizuki Mayura, grabbing his arm. “Please—let Risa’s soul rest in peace now.” Her gray eyes glistened as she put a reassuring hand on Shulin’s shoulder. Li Shulin sat on her knees, paralyzed. Behind her, a tall man with long golden hair stood silently, watching over Shulin with sorrowful midnight eyes.

Ruichi was suddenly still, and a frantic expression came over his face. “We can save her. With our powers combined, we can do anything. We have the powers to save her.” He stared up desperately at the four with his hungry golden eyes.

Slowly, Hayashi shook his head. “There are things that even we can’t do.”

“There’s nothing impossible for us!” Chang Ruichi gave a short laugh as his long blue-black hair thrashed in the wind. A delirious look came over his face. “We are the Great Five, aren’t we?”

“Ruichi, we can’t,” Mayura said.

“Why not?” Ruichi crumpled to his knees, sobbing into his hands like a broken child. His voice cracked. “Bring back Risa…”

This was a challenge for me because these were expressions that I had never done before. I actually feel proud of the end result. I hope I captured the emotions that Ruichi was going through. I believe that Ruichi's anger is the greatest one in New Trials.

I know the prompt was anger but I felt like doing more than just a simple drawing of an angry character...I wanted to do the stages in which he went through.

(It's supposed to be read like a manga kind of; from right to left. I had to draw it diagonal because that was the only way to put all the stages together in one paper.)

I want to thank :iconamethystbeloved: for giving me the prompt, and for encouraging me into drawing and writing. And I want to thank :iconwishluv: because it's her story and characters, and because she's a wonderful writer.

Oh wow, you've captured the range of emotions so well. You are so good at capturing different expressions! Anger, grief, insanity, loss... You are actually making me feel sorry for Ruichi. Well, actually, I have felt sorry for him for a long time....

Thank you!:huggle::happybounce: I worked hard on that drawing.  :D ...After knowing the story behind his insanity it's kind of hard not to feel sorry for him, though I don't know if he would like us feeling sorry for him....

Wow. Those expressions are really amazing. You did a great job. They give off his feelings so well. I'm at loss of words to describe it but it's really well done :)

Just like AmethystBeloved said, you captured his anger and grief and craziness perfectly. My favorite face is definitely the last and the third, you can see his emotions clearly. The extent he's willing to go to for his sister, and how not being able to save her and keep her safe truly devastates him. IT'S SO GOOOOOOOD

Wow Bubulona... this is remarkable! You hear about the "five stages of grief" expression all the time, but this is on another level. I love the concept that you came up with of exploring poor Ruichi's emotions when he received the heart breaking news. When it comes to wrath and anger, this Dark One is the king. The first couple are definitely anger. The third is nothing short of maniacal. The shock and grief really kicks in by the end. Excellent work! You should share this on the Facebook group. It's been too quiet and you might be able to inspire some creativity. I look forward to updating the NT Fan Projects site with your piece! It's been really quiet over there too, lol.

Thanks so much for drawing a picture for the Anger prompt. You really couldn't have picked a better scene.

You're welcome! But I want to thank you for giving me the prompt. Dance!
