SAI Brush Settings (Read Description) by bubblymaika SAI Brush Settings (Read Description) by bubblymaika
Textures and elemaps. Most have a tutorial on how to install them.
HI, decided to make a clearer version of my old SAI brushes because I'm shit at explaining things. Pen pressure is needed for all of these, I do not know how they will work without it. Unless mentioned otherwise, feel free to mess around with the settings. Better examples linked below to give you a better idea on what they can do.

"Impressionist" Brush: Ok, technically this should probably be called Post imp since it was inspired by Van Gogh's works, but w/e. This is what I use in a bunch of my paintings, especially speedpaintings. Don't alter the size (unless you needs a pointy stroke) or opacity. It won't have the same effect otherwise. It takes a while to get used to, but it's easily my favorite brush out of all of these. As it says in the pic, the default Fine, Rough, Middle, and Stringy elemaps all work well for this! Used here. And here in the BG.

"Sakura" Ink: I basically try to copy my traditional materials as much as possible. Failed here, but it has it's uses. Feel free to rename any of these brushes BTW. It's basically a textured line you can use for painting details, weird lettering, idk. Can't post my most recent example yet, but I will ASAP.

Nib Pen: Basically what ^ should have been. Writings, outlining, highlights, etc. Nothing too crazy. Examples of outline and highlights.

"Krita"Paint:
I tried krita, my laptop hated it. I wanted to mimic the feel of one of the brushes, but I probably failed lmao. Much smoother than the other paintbrushes I have and the textures blend nicely. Like I said, it's a little weird and i personally find it only works in certain paintings, but maybe someone else can do more awesome stuff with it.Used in this portrait and for the landorus.

Wet Ink: Basically just for cloudy/brushy/misty/etc effects. With a less harsh texture, it can do alright for blocking out a painting. Used for the ocean effect here.

Crayon: Waxy af, just like a real crayon. Nowadays, i just use this for doodles cause it's honestly difficult to make fully rendered work with it. It's cute and fun though, and works for things like this.

"Monet" Brush: A more impression-y brush. Named after monet cause it smudges better and his stuff was v smudgy. I like to use this with the Imp brush or for more soft look. Just like with Imp, you can use any of those default elemaps I mentioned, i just prefer the Stringy and Middle ones. Used here.

Dry Brush: I use this for a more soft or detailed painting that I can't really do with the other brushes. Mess with the opacity and size as much as you want! Think of it as a painty airbrush. Used here and here.

Charcoal: More smooth and smudgy than the wet ink (and better for paintings imo) Good for fluffy clouds imo. No examples unfort.

Pencil: Sketchy sketch. Basically just for monochrome or BW doodles.

A few more important things.

  • I sadly do not remember where the Grunge texture or Streak elemap come from. I got them from a tumblr post and I haven't been able to find it in my archive. If I do find the sources, I'll update ASAP. But any soft grungy or watercolor texture (like the Watercolor A default) can work alright. And a flat or square brush can replace the streak.

  • I'm also not 100% which of the packs has the ground texture or pond texture;;; but they;re in one of them. For the pond, anything that looks like water smudges you see in watercolour should hopefully work;;; I think in the brushpack it was in, it was called cloud or something;;;

  • :new: There is a pack linked here under question 8 on bluekomadori 's tumblr that has several of the textures (including some I did not have the links to) and some more brushes. Please note that it is a very large file as there are a lot of textures and brushes!

  • Aqua highlight means you can use nearly any texture for the blotmap/papertex. I say nearly because some textures honestly don't work too great, but it's something you need to test out. I personally change them up very often depending on what texture I want for the painting/drawing.

Enjoy! :happybounce:

I did re-name some of these and I'm not entirely sure where that particular texture came from. I know I nabbed some from a tumblr post that I unfortunately can no longer find. It might have been from there, apologies.

You could also check through here bluekomadori.tumblr.com/faq

Under question 8, there's a link to a bunch of textures and brushes (and I mean a BUNCH) and another link on how to install those.

I hope that helps and I'm glad you're having fun with the brushes so far!

Oh! I missed this comment, sorry! Sadly, I found that in another pack that I can no longer find. However, bluekomadori has a large pack with a lot of these resources, including that particular texture. It's here under question 8. I hope that helps, just keep in mind that the file has a LOT of brushes and textures.

What would be the recommended textures for dry and charcoal brush? Also where to find the Bark texture?

I like grunge and watercolour textures for the dry brush. Charcoal I mess around with depending on the effect I want. Overall, feel free to mess around with textures yourself to see what you like to work with!

sta.sh/2w0f6372an2?edit=1 The only problem is that they're not in bitmap form and need to be converted somehow. I know bluekomadori has a big pack with the resources they use and that has the Bark texture + a lot of the other textures linked and more. I'll ask my friend for the link asap so I can put it in the description.

You can make one by making a blur brush with maximum persistence. (Blur brushes tend to be watercolour brushes with max blending and dilution)

I enjoy these kind of brushes! But one more thing, "Paint Tool SAI brush set ('bark" is from here, iirc it is the 'paint' one)" is nowhere to be found dearie...

Ah ok, so I just checked and it turns out the OP deactivated. I could possibly upload the bitmap later in my spare time.
