Did I ever say how much I LOVE the fact we can place transparent pictures of our art on our jounral? Did I ? DID I?
Well, I'm a lovin' it! :D Well to make it short and sweet I shall begin cracking down hard on churning out storyboards, environments and characters for my pitches! this is my final year at Lasalle and I intend to go out with a BANG ! :D    Today was awesome! My Dad who was in a black mood most of this week agreed to drive me out to collect books from this person who was giving out free tons of comics at far Bukit Batok much to my suprise! My Mom and cousin came too,so it was good to have people on hand, because turned out said person WAS a dude! I was uber shocked as , well, most comic artists or collectors in Singapore tend to be gals. But that's just misogyny speaking.Anywaaays, Guy was super nice, he was moving out, he said, was trying to get rid of all these awesome books due to the rush, his block was being demolished, a shame in my opinion, as it looked like a pretty awesome place to live in.I like old historical buildings, it's a minor quirk.Anyways, he gave out free paper bags to place in, a good thing too as he kindly showed me he had a vast collection of magazines, and I was, like, "OMG. B-but I thought you said on the forums ya wanted to sell 'em to like the highest bidder?" Well, no one wanted 'em. So he offered them to me, and who was I to say no? I mean,OMG.These books were like worth loads of money when I was a tyke and I was too stingy or got 'no'ed by the parents duw to well, not having money then to spend on such 'friviolities'.

So, a year back I was like saying, I would NEVER ever like manga again...I 've  just went back full blown Otaku again ...Kinda. I got the awesometastic WHOLE series of Azumanga Daioh, Chobits , how to write Japanese set, how to draw manga set(( So I am an animator.Scew that, I'm forever LEARNING! I get my knowledge from EVERYWHERE.NOTHING IS EITHER TOO ADVANCED OR BENEATH ME TO LEARN.)) , and tons and tons of manga  magazines, filled with awesome character designs which I can peruse when I need reference!

This has been an awesome day! Tomorrow I shall go print my junk out.:D Action packed to the brim indeed!

Wow! You are so lucky to have gotten all of that stuff! That must've been so awesome. :dummy:

Usually, over here in America, most comic artists/collectors tend to be male, so it's interesting to know that it's different where you live. The guy seems pretty nice; it's a shame his block is going to get demolished.

I've recently gone back into a semi-Otaku phase myself. I'm attempting to learn Japanese at the moment, trying out more anime-influenced drawing styles, and since you mentioned Azumanga Daioh, I might go back and finish watching the anime.

Yep, I agree with you about being forever learning. Even the best artists don't stop! :)

Lastly, I'd just like to say that I'd love to favorite those journal icons you made. They're just so cool and unique. :D

0v0 It was! :D Still am pretty shocked I hit a gold mine! :D

Well~In the early 1970s, it WAS mostly male for comic book artists and collectors, the somewhat 'first' comic book artist to break into international market was a guy who created a comic called the 'Celestial zone'.Then those men had kids, and passed on their love to their kids! And that was when I was born, around the late 1990s! So, a whole generation of kids, either having a dad who was a hardcore anime fan,or an elder brother or older cousin or even uncle who was gaga at some point over anime who was more than happy to spike interest or pass it on to a new torch holder! I know!

I liked Azumanga Daioh. It's unusual to say the least!

:D really? Thanks! But for the sake of keeping a low deviation count, I'll be storing these babies in my stash as I intend to churn out lots of them at a go!

I'm not really sure about comic culture over here, either; ^^; I'm more of a videogames person.

As far as I can see though, there are more females into comics here than there were years ago, but there's still more guys interested in them.

I see! Well, the webs are having a major field day as far as i can see.On both fronts.Oh, did you hear about the recent X box debate in that case.X box made a huge mistake about making a rape joke and there was a huge decrease in their following. Both men and women, angry , pulled out and went to ps3. It restored my faith to say the least in humans.

I see.Eeyup, same everywhere, I guess!.

Oh, don't get me started on the XBox One. That entire presentation was a mess, and I didn't even see that much of it! Did you know that some of Microsoft's employees went to Nintendo events held at certain stores and tried to convince people to buy the XBox One?

...It's still mostly male for comic artists even now buuut, a few female artists are breaking into the market over here...I hope I'll be one of them! ;) Like one of my mentors in animation who's also female told me.... "IT'S VIVA LA REVOLUTION TIME!" About time! We need more female voices on the home turf! :D I'm very happy to see more female comic book artists who are Singaporean on devinatart and hope to see more male comic book artists start to well, start creating more comics that can be geared towards BOTH female and male audiences! Not to sound pushy, I just would be happy to see that.Because, after a while, it can be so very tiring and disillusing to read yet another comic that features a man who goes on these fantastic quirky adventures and the only female in his story? His girlfriend.Whose sole purpose is there to bitch at him, whine at him,and to provide 'grounding' for him ! ...And she's almost alllways thin, pale and fashionable and waifish...Despite the overwhelming evidence that contrasts that in reality. But anyhoo! Thanks again for reading my journal!

I hope you do make it into the industry. :D

I almost feel sexist saying it, but female characters (with a few exceptions) tend to be less interesting than their male counterparts. But if you and some other like-minded people make it into the comic industry, or just the entertainment industry as a whole, maybe that could change.

That's why I liked your tortise character in the Tortise and the Hare comic you did a while back. She was spunky, and wasn't quite society's standard of beauty. In other words, she was different. :)

Nope! I appreciate it! And that's why we need more female authors. ((Ooh, who's the sexist one here,eh?..It's more likely me. XD)) It's considerd taboo but the hard sad truth?....Yep.And the reason why? A huge ton of these female characters are being written by male authors. But really,I'm happy to see more people like Bryan Lee O' Malley come out. He's one of the few men in my opinion ESTABLISHED in the industry who can write women well, why? Because sadly,he's one of the few men who says he wrote women 'well' was because he wrote them as PEOPLE.And not as a prize or a sex object.Oh gee, what a groundbreaking discovery! No really, it's an insult to the intelligence of men , and degrading to women once you write female characters as SEX objects. It's like saying women are mere objects and men are baying beasts who are unable to control and are only guided by their sexual instincts! That's what makes me angry, when you disrespect your audience who deserves so much more!

I want to write people as well, people.Everyone has a story, everyone has the right to fight and gain true love and all that jazz.Whether who, what or where you came from or what you look like. XD But I am happy and touched you liked Tortoise! I was bombarded with questions on her weight and me choosing her as a lead! Like, how does her weight got to do with her being the lead and main character? What, her appearance BUT CHARACTER is not driving the story? 'Wait, she's a girl?, shouldn;'t you have made her a male, I mean she's doing such rough men's work! '...... Tortoise comes from a war torn post apocalyptic city where she rose to power only by sheer will and establishing herself in the racing industry . She also is a mechanic and inventor and clearly has to lift heavy objects. As a result, she has to eat protein rich, hearty meals to maintain her strength....What people see, is also, not fat. It's pure hard muscle and she has a 'baby' face, chubby if you call it, but it is not uncommon for people to have it even athlethic people. It's a matter of genetics! So very happy she has a fan, and hey, maybe I'll pick it up again once OOTW is complete! XD

What you said about Bryan Lee O' Malley reminded me of this-headbangwithhayley.tumblr.com/...

I never thought about how that when people write women poorly, it insults both genders.

And people actually said those things about Tortoise? :noes: But she was so tough and awesome, and I loved her backstory! Maybe she'll gain more fans if the comic picks up again. I'm sure there's more people who could appreciate her. :)

Yes! Men are not animals,it's insulting and saddening that some men and women make a feeble excuse that insuates that all men are guided by sexual instinct. What about those men that are asexual? Those men are what then? Nothings ? It disgusts me to no end to say the least when you disrespect either gender by labelling them as one.

YES.Well, perhaps in the near future! I'm still thinking about her plot and how to connect the ending and begginning together 0v0 OOTW took ten years and I'm still discovering new things about my characters.... and thinking on how each character is central and can be used to advance a plot. And while the beginning and end of two long running volumes is finalized, the middle is still a mystery.U_U So, i can't imagine how a short running series but pretty lengthy still like TaH is gonna break me.XD And lets not forget the other stories that constantly are doing battle in my mind to be developed.I developed numerous stories as a kid and the problem is I might not live long enough to see through the completion of all of them! XD But thank you kindly, it's very happy and keeps me fighting daily that TaH has someone who appreciates it!

You do have a lot of ideas. A lot of good-looking ones, too. And here I was worrying about the few comics I'm planning on doing! :XD:

You're welcome. I can't wait to see what's in store for both TaH and OOTW. :D
