More Flash stuff! :)

I'm slowly discovering ActionScript, and I am now building a controllable version of my character Venus Galaxy. Feel free to play around with it ^_^

Suggestions for improvement / new features are welcome!

Version 0.3 (2012/06/03)
* Added a camera that automatically follows Venus. The camera can zoom and pan. (Zooming is currently user-controlled.) Also added a crosshair with screen coordinates.
Version 0.2.1 (2012/04/02)
* Added a small interface that shows how far you've charged your running speed and jumping force. Still tweaking the looks.
Version 0.2 (2012/04/01)
* Jumps added! There's a standard jump (which you can charge by holding the spacebar), and a long jump (which is triggered if your speed is high enough).

Controls
* A to go left
* D to go right
* Hold Shift to run
* (When running fast enough) Spacebar to jump
* (Otherwise) Hold Spacebar to charge, release Spacebar to jump.
* N and M to zoom in/out
* Hold mouse button to animate the useless crosshair :)

The scene wraps around horizontally, so if you leave the level, you'll re-appear on the other side.

Great, she interacts really realistically, and the jump and running make this even better!

Thanks :salute:

I think the next step will be some sort of interface that tells you how far your speed/jump has been charged.
...But it's tempting to add violence.

What are you using BTW? AS2, AS3?
Flash Develop? or Flashes own IDE

I'm using AS3 in Flash's own environment. Which isn't very great if you're used to stuff like Eclipse or Visual Studio, but oh well...

you could try Flash Develop. It's a free standalone IDE recommended by some NG users

PS, where are you learning AS3 from? I need to make the transition

A'ight, I'll take a look!

Um, this is my first time with ActionScript so I'm just googling for anything I don't know. ^^; Not sure what the differences with previous versions are. What have you been using so far?

AS2, which was mostly procedural, not OOP

I see...
In that case, here's one tutorial that may be useful to you; it explains how to link Movie Clips to AS3 classes and how to build a basic game loop with an invisible Engine class. [link]

I told you you could make a game of it, and you did =D
Awesome Wotje!

And now for some healthy and well-meant feedback, the animation from running to standing still is great (the breaking and stuff), but the lack of an animation for the transaction from walking to stopping is absent, which looks a bit stiff. And I didn't know moon is quite slippery xD

The rest is nice!
...Hold shift and rapidly press A and D continuusly after eachother for EPIC RAVE DJENS TIEMZ

Thanks! Somehow I knew you'd make her dance. :dance:

I agree that the transitions could still improve. Problem is, the smoothness depends on the current frame of the walking animation. Finish a full walking loop and the stopping motion looks okay. In other words, I'd have to make a number of different animations for the same type of transition-- or do something that's so completely different that it doesn't look clanky, such as the braking motion. Reducing the sliding effect might help as well. :nod:

Thanks for your input; I'm afraid I won't be able to work on this anytime soon, but I hope I will pick it up again someday.
