I drew inspiration from the movie designs for a lot of this, namely the designs of the giant Seadragons (Furious, Merciless) which in the book as I understand look like a typical dragon, but sized like a mountain. The three eyes and coral helms are movie flair. It's what I pictured when I first read about Furious, so it's what I drew. Again, spoilers came after....
I could not figure out the color of the dragons. There are a LOT of dragons and some colors were never stated, others stated three different ways in cover art or book text or extras and recolors. I picked my own colors as I saw fit and kept what I could to the book: all I know for sure is that Toothless is green, and similarly that Hiccup III has red hair and Hiccup II has blonde hair, blue eyes. (You can read and see more on my headcanons and designs of Hiccup II at my tumblr, under this tag. Basically I draw him as wild, long hair, dirty, since he was raised feral.) I kept Hiccup I similar in looks to movie!Hiccup because their stories are very similar. Etc. There's a TON of creative licence here, it's by no means correct.
Finally, I personally like to think of the Hiccup boys as reincarnations. I may be wrong? But even if it's stated that I am...that's just how I think. They have too much in common, not just in actions but down to using the exact same words in the exact same situations. And I think there's something really beautiful in imagining Hiccup the II in his new life, meeting the wreck his brother has become and trying to reason with him...Wodensfang having to face his mistakes and regrets directly to the incarnation of his beloved Hiccup I...the irony of Hiccup II in a sense being able to hear his father's apology in his next life....etc. I find it fascinating and sweet...maybe I just want a happy ending for the poor babies. They have to go through a lot.

-Grimbeard kills Hiccup II thinking that he has betrayed him
This is amazing. I'm only on book 6, but this is brilliant.
This is an amazing piece! The parallels and the symbolism are incredible, and I especially love how each little scene bleeds into the next (sometimes quite literally).
It just fits so perfectly with the story (even if there have been some inconsistencies in the books).
It sums up everything so brilliantly and so artistically!
I love it! Great job!
it made me cry rip
Hiccup H. H. II was my favorite part of this whole drawing, to be frank, and honestly the one that hits me in the feels the most. :,D
I might've underestimated the books....
It's also my favourite cite of the books you use:
“History is a set of repeating circles, like the tide. The wind does blow through the ruins of tomorrow.
But it is more a question of two steps forward, one step back.
We do make the same mistakes, again and again, but things do get better over time.”
I'm staring at this wonderful artwork for hours and keeps scrolling up and down to reminisce Book 1- 10.
Movie Hiccup does have a very similar story with Hiccup the First. I always picture Hiccup I looks like Hiccup in the movie too.
It is amazing how Cressida Cowell can change one hopeful situation into 180 degree turn to despair. Following the story is like riding a roller coaster, you never know what is going to happen next.
Love your art, do draw more!
He's the rightful King of the Wilderwest, takes responsibility for his position as a leader, but at the same time he's banished and given the slavemark and loses all his rights.
I love this part in the books, it's such a chaotic mix of extremes~
Holy shit. this is the most beautiful thing that I've ever seen. I love this. I can't get over how you capture the history of the three so perfectly. And it kinda ties into the movie in a way too. I can't help but think the first dragon looks like Toothless from the movie. and then the Sea Dragon he defeats in the movie too.
It's just so perfect and beautiful
cool! I've been going back and forth about the reincarnation thing, or if its just means something else X3
while i was commenting, have u read the 11th book yet?...
lovely job <3
I'll definitely have to check this book series out!
I like your looks for the different Hiccups, they fit the Hiccup bill but have their own kind of character.
Also, is the new book out already? Where I looked it said it would be released late December. If so, I gotta make a run to the closest bookstore!
