Portrait of a Winter's Mourn

Portrait of a Winter's Mourn

A light frost had glazed the pane overnight, Chill amidst weariness allows no vigor, Pure, white innocence hides the city, 'Only goodness can come from a day so peaceful,' I allowed myself to believe, Sharp wind reddens cheeks, Fighting against the season, A thin layer of ice prevents the small winter creatures from sinking as I          always do, SILENCE grips the scenery, most fear to break it, Tracks of shoes, foreign to this world, Peacefulness seems as loneliness, disguised carefully with optimism, The sky masks the bare shrubs and leaf-bearers, As if frozen water could replace the beauty of nature, ha, What's so wonderf

Drops in the Ocean

Drops in the Ocean What a strange feeling has overtaken me, Feels like uncertainty, cautiousness, The old memories like droplets of water, filling the bucket I have left on the floor, Should I drink from the memories? It might be better to kick the bucket over and let every bit of moisture seep through the cracks in the floor, never to be revisited. So, as I was lost in thought, I heard a soft and unsure voice call my name, I looked, near shock, Surely this voice could not belong to the proud and boisterous girl I remember, But there was no mistaking it; she was there, clear as my vision. We spoke for a moment as though nothing

My Mesiah

My Mesiah Stand on your soapbox, And tell me you're right, Hold your head high, And say it with spite, Gather the attention, Yell, holler and shout At the top of your lungs, What are you about? "MY FRIENDS LISTEN NOW, IT'S TIME FOR THE REVOLUTION! OPEN YOUR EARS TO ME, FOR I HAVE THE SOLUTION!" Yes, oh yes, My beacon of justice, Give me the way to freedom, Let me be your apprentice, "THE ANSWER YOU SEEK, LAYS NOT ON THE HORIZON, YOUR ANSWER IS HERE, IN A TASTE OF MY POISON! So drink up now, Let not a drop to waste, Soon we'll be free, Make haste, make haste." I was being sarcastic, You dumb, twisted FUCK! But you dr

Inchworm

Inchworm As I sat, contemplating the day, I espied an inchworm Who found his way into the hall, Perhaps on the ankle of a passing student, Perhaps to feast on a puddle of sticky cola, He, quite determinedly, made his path Across the corridor, inch by inch, His movements brought to mind the drunkard, Who would step forward as he rose, Then fall forward, Then rise and step again, At first I admired him for his will, He did not falter, slow as he moved, He traced a line across the hall, I chased him patiently with my eyes, At half past the hour he finished a yard, At half past the hour classes were let out, And so was he, As I

When I died

When I Died My body lay dormant, My mind is racing, My spirit is somewhere else entirely, The feeling of death still lingers in the air, I wonder how long before someone finds me? The colour has left my skin, Leaving behind a pale envelope that reminds me of a ghost. How fitting that my body looks like a spector, And my spector looks like death, I suppose loitering around in my past life is not the way to move on, It's making me feel depressed, I can see my every failure, Trapped in that useless corpse, But I can't seem to look away, Much like a terrible car accident or train wreck, That's all my life was, Now what?

Lapse

Lapse If it didn't strike you, While we tossed stones through the tall reeds, It struck me, How great expectations are our downfall, How much we desire, Even though we know better, As we played, we remembered a simple time, And forgot what we craved, As the grass tickled our feet, We forgot physical pleasure, As the stones fills our pockets, We forgot material success, We were kings that day, Becasuse we had forgotten What we wanted.

Dry Spells

Dry Spells I once threw a penny down a well, And waited for the splash, To make my wish, None came, Instead, I heard a soft and echoed clink, I dropped another, with a dim hope, And waited to feel surprise, None came, So I went in to retrieve my cents, And found a fortune that others had dropped, Then yelled for help, None came, My foolish greed left me stranded, But at least my wish had come true, I searched for a plan to escape, None came, So I dropped my fortune to the floor, And a thousand soft and echoed clinks sounded like a splash, So I waited for my new wish to come true, It hasn't.

A World Apart, Save One Moment

A World Apart, Save One Moment As I tread unusually heavily through The slushy underfoot hinderances, With a cigarette loosely gripped between The bareskin extending From my tipless gloves, It dawns on me, more or less 'dusks' on me, That the bipedal traveller I just passed Was a person I knew, Not that I ever met her, But I knew her struggle down The narrow walkway, As she walked with most of her strength, The rest was focused on tightly clasping her jacket shut With her wool-clad hands, So focused, in fact, that she scarcely had The will to look up and meet my gaze, Without a chance to smile or nod, She was gone behind me,

Torrent Once a man asked me,           Why are you smiling?           Don't you know it's raining? To which I replied,           Why aren't you smiling?           Don't you know it's raining?           Can't you feel the cool breeze?           The drops on your skin?           The wetness in the air,           Stealing the bitter cold of winter? He protested,           But the drops on your skin seem as tears,           But my eyes are not red,           The rain soaks you to the bone,           It washes away my deepest sins,           It drenches the pathway,           Creating puddles to splash and dance,           How d

Jesse James

Jesse James Listen now, son, While it's still fresh, Of how the rythm was a magnet, Covering miles and invisible lines, How we escaped to the den of sin, Where the bright white light tried, But couldn't wash away the filth, Waiting there for the white pony, To stop bucking its reigns, In the layer of excrement, Under cover of shame, Embraced confused lust, Bristled by the sweet taste, A juxtaposition of taboo pleasures and innocence, Surrounded by cold indifference and corruptiuon, It's just a position, toe to toe, Where barriers shudder and disappear, And lovers become estranged in moments to come.

If only one of us had the guts

If only one of us had the guts I take another sip of whiskey, Peek at you over this glass of mine, And see you staring back at me, Covering up with a sip of wine. My friends are going on But they might as well be dead, I'm too busy winking at you, Exchanging these thoughts unsaid. I walk as close to you as I dare On the way to get more drinks, And we're both pretending We don't know what the other thinks. It really is so simple, But we're bumbling the night away, And our friends all want to leave, Giving us no excuses to stay. Walking sleepy-eyed back home We know we're stupid and nuts, Wanting to chase each other down, If
