Description

It's been quiet here on my page lately, but that's not to say I'm not doing art. In fact, I have more work-in-progress sculpts on my workdesk right now than I can shake a stick at. I've also been working on a heap of small resin Cthulhus--last run from this set of molds, really need to remold the little guys (first run of molds was full of bubbles, causing a bunch of extra work when prepping casts). So, not much new to show at the moment.

However, I recently decided to start experimenting with coloured Sculpey faux stones. There's a whole heaping mass of tutorials out there, some of which look awesome. Of course, not content to just do beads I decided to try out a Cthulhu first. Of course. This is from a faux jade tutorial. He's a bit rough around the edges, I didn't want to overwork the clay and lose the mottled green appearance, though I probably could've smoothed him out a little more without harming it too much. Coloured sculpey is a lot softer than what I usually use. Putting him in the freezer helped a bit.

That really does have the look of slimy sea-stone and enhances the overall wrongness of the ol' squid's idol. I really like the effect!
