The memorial service for our friend and former neighbor, Darwin, was held this past Friday, November 14th. He died unexpectedly after taking a bad fall at my sister's workplace on October 28th. It shouldn't have happened, and I still get upset whenever I think about it. He was 87, still going very strong, and living in the independent section of the retirement home.

I always asked for him, asked if my sister saw him while on the clock, and whenever he came around her desk, he'd ask about our family. We knew him as far back as when my sister and I were kids in grade school. He and his wife, Shirley, lived one driveway up from our house. When we moved out in 2000, they both wrote us a beautiful letter of good luck.

Call it fate that Darwin would end up moving in at my sister's work around 2012. He remembered her right away, and his presence always made me happy. Whenever I saw him, I'd run up and give him a hug of a hello. He'd be leaving to go to his church meeting. His friends would come pick him up usually around 6:30 in the evening. If I came too early to pick up my sister from work, I'd catch him on the way out or taking a stroll around the halls of the building. He was a constant gem, smiling and asking how I was doing with my work or asking how our mom was doing.

As of now, I'm settling back into work after my vacation ended. The weather has gotten a lot colder, more at night, so I've been taking my jacket more frequently.

My sister and I went to see The Hunchback of Notre Dame musical at the La Jolla Playhouse on the 8th. It was a combination of the Victor Hugo novel and Disney movie. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Alan Menken was there that night, but we didn't meet him. We did, however, meet and get a photo with Patrick Page, the actor that played Frollo. The musical is running till December 14th I believe, so if you like the story and can get to the area, I'd recommend catching it.

Current favorite show, Doctor Who, won't be back until the Christmas special on December 25th, so I've been poking around some hashtags on Tumblr. Not really been focused in the GMD fandom, unfortunately, but I do tend to pop in here and there, plus keep the site going weekly. I'm nearing another 20 update archive page, too.

That's all for now. Hope everyone is doing well.
