Nothing is Sacred
Nothing is Sacred represents the knowledge that all things once held sacred can be and probably have been reduced to little more than an emoji and a cute plushie. There was even a movie made about emojis, an all time low for modern entertainment and a testament to pop culture's complete lack of control and respect for what's truly important.
Nothing is Sacred was crocheted and knit from acrylic and wool blend yarns, stuffed with polyfill, and embroidered with the same kind of yarns. The heart was created using a pattern by Miss Dolkapots, missdolkapots.wordpress.com/ta…

I entered Ripley's Unconventional Art Contest with a small sculpture I call Smallest Billy Goat Gruff. I have pictures of the process and supplies, but I don't have a Core membership, so I can't embed the photos in the journal entry.
I had a lot of fun figuring out what to use, because at first, I had no idea what I was going to make. Once I did, I knew immediately which materials I'd use. I had harvested some slices of juniper tree that had been chopped down near my mother in law's cabin. I'd cut off the bark, and because I stored it, the bark curled gorgeously. I also had some moss we gathered. I've been saving old candle nibs, and had some fresh and slightly used candles on hand, so I melted them. Once I got them melted, I started assembling the tableau.
I don't even care if I win, this was fun! We're displaying the work in our basement, where we play Pathfinder and D&D. Please feel free to check out the pictures here:

Smallest Billy Goat Gruff
I chose to portray the first Billy Goat Gruff crossing the bridge, after assuring the troll his brothers were bigger. You can see the delight on the troll's face (I got REALLY lucky with the wax.) Using old candles, new candles, and slightly used candles, I covered slices of juniper and moss in order to create sculptures of the goat and the troll. The base is a disposable cake tray, filled with wax, fake blue stones, real pebbles, dried strawberry tops, moss, and curls of juniper bark. Not terribly visible is a bit of snakeskin waxed paper wrapped around the troll's arms and back.
I completed this project today in 4 hours. It was touch and go with the troll, took me a long time to get him to look good, but I am satisfied with the overall project. It's a contest entry for Ripley's Unconventional Art Contest.
