//update 9/9/2011:

This unfortunate group of friends once made a secret pact. To never grow old after hearing stories from their grandparents about the Immortal Cursed Village. They never did get to hear end of the story before they fell a sleep. However it was more than enough to get their imagination.

It was not really the bedtime story that triggered their infatuation with staying young. It all started in the town where they once lived in, that became ravaged by war. Every able adult was desperately recruited into battle and never to be seen again. It was with that seed of thought in the minds of the young, that growing older meant unspeakable responsibilities or even death.

In the absent of their parents, many of the remaining elders looked after the children with loving care. When the elders became senile or crippled by time, the children felt helpless they could not do much in return. This only haunted the children even more about the burdens of becoming older.

So it was with that the group of three friends decided they could spare no more time. They snuck out at the dead of night with the ambition to reveal the secret of the Immortal Village to remain young. They borrow their grandparent story diary to guide them through the darkness. It was scary seeing shadows loom from every corner of the forest path and hearing bumps in the night. They did not cry out for their parents because they knew they could not come. It was the greater fear that egged them every step of their way, the fear of becoming old and promise to themselves.

It was dawn and three girls must have fallen asleep. They found themselves at the foot of a foreign town. It was eerily beautiful and nothing like home. Instead of paint chipped buildings and cracked roads, the houses were all lavished in decor and well kept roads paved in marble. The village itself was surrounded by a lush garden that would make any farmer envious. It was a charming village without a soul in sight other than some pretty statues. The group of friends all silently agreed this had to be the fabled Immortal Village. To them it seemed timeless, not even the war had calmed it. It was the first time in years the three girls felt a sense of freedom.

Hunger started to nip at group of three girls. So they decided to help to themselves to the gardens and drank from the town’s fountain before they continued to explore. The village was filled with many curiosities. However, they started to wonder if they could not find the villages secret to youth. At the least they can bring the others to enjoy this seemly magically town.

The three girls started to feel a bit sluggish as if gravity started to play tricks on them. Maybe it was from all the exploring they thought. Suddenly their joints stiffen as they walked and their feet became fasten to the ground. They panic and struggled, but it was of no use as they watched every inch of their body harden to marble. Before they completely turned to stone they realized they got their wish of immortality.

As stone they will no longer feel the sorrows of war or be burdened with old age. The stormiest of days will quickly pass and would be no different from a day of sunshine to them. They will always remain as perfect as they are. Three pretty statues with a friendship that will lasts forever.

I always think art is better with a story behind it, and this is no exception. Beautiful work.

I always enjoy these, but just once I'd like to see a girl turned to stone with her hair staying normal...with it's natural color and properties

That's an interesting concept.

Wonder what they're thinking now.
BrianLukArt's avatar
They are probably thinking of sweet dreams and not so pleasant thoughts of about pooping pigeons.

Better or worse than being dead rock?
BrianLukArt's avatar
A rock is rock, I guess. While a person enchanted into a statue might be one day saved by a prince charming or hero.

Or broken into pieces by careless developers.
