DR WHO Radio Times

Description

This was one of those jobs that just made my inner fanboy go "sqweeee!" I've always loved Frank Bellamy's work on GARTH and, especially, the Dr Who stuff he did for Radio Times way back when. The smaller image is an original Radio Times cover from 1972 and the larger is one I did for Dr Who Magazine to illustrate an article about a nearly made (but not quite) Daleks TV series that Terry Nation tried to get off the ground in the late 60's.
I'm an illustrator, not a graphic designer (dammit, Jim!) but this was one of those occasions where the editorial team took my idea of faking up a cover as it would have looked in the day and ran with it. I know it's not a patch on a real Bellamy, but it was a blast to do - one of those jobs that was good for the soul!

I'm not sure if I can accurately put into words just how much I actually adore and love this piece of art, but I will try <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/let…" width="15" height="15" alt=":P" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="395" title=":P (Lick)"/>. To start off the colors and shadows and light used is great; the Daleks look awesome, the characters look so realistic to the actors its brilliant. The whole feel of the piece gives me a warm fuzzy glow in my stomach, I want this to be real, to be a reality. But sadly it wont be, so I'll settle for this <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=":) (Smile)"/> The final touch of the classic radio times cover scheme and design is golden, it really just puts the icing on this Dalek Cake of art. I praise the drawing styling and everything else too. Very Well done <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b…" width="15" height="15" alt=":D" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="366" title=":D (Big Grin)"/>
