Oh my pumpkin, thanks so much! It was my first giant pumpkin carve, I hope to do some more in the future. I have a old high school friend who's dad grows record breaking pumpkins. 
Yeah, had I not been hard pressed to get it done for the contest deadline I would have spent more time on detail work. However after I found out I missed the deadline by 20 minutes I couldn't look at the damn thing for a week. Thankfully it was 6 six inches thick, so it took almost 3 weeks to decay and I was able to display it on the 31st!
Which reminds me, I need to post my T-Rex skull I carved. Thanks! ^_^

I guess you must use an exacto knife or something very sharp to carve. I use safety knives, and make traditional faces. It is great stuff. You should try to get into wood working.
Well actually I use a fruit carving knife set, bet pumpkin carving tools for detail work.
