Harley Quinn

I actually kind of hate this character, always have, but she was super fun to draw. I did the line art last summer but didn't get around to coloring it until now. It was meant to originally just be a bust along with Cat Woman and Poison Ivy (the femme fatales of Gotham) but I never finished it. Then I decided it would be busts of her and Joker, since Joker is ultra fun to draw, but now it just ended up being a picture by its lonesome with more of the body present because I wanted something to throw up online.

I guess I didn't always HATE Harley Quinn. She was OK in the animated series, but I always found her pretty obnoxious and bratty. The thing I hate most of all is a chunk of her fanbase and the way she is regarded these days. I've met so many women who idolize this wacko, and DC is even promoting her as a hero/role model these days. A serial killer, psycho-path, Stockholm Syndrome-suffering, manipulated clown is not a good role model for women (she's even being promoted as a character for little girls now...). I feel like she just showed up super late in the game for Batman and just took over the whole franchise. Her character alone completely rewrote a massive chunk of the Joker too, forcing her to always be a major part of his character, forever killing the classic villain. Any person who jokes "f@#$ Romeo and Juliet, I want a relationship like Joker and Harley" is a really stupid or really sick individual, or they just clearly don't actually know anything about Batman, they're just saying that to be trendy. But, yeah, Harley Quinn - terrible role model for women and promoter of domestic abuse, and just fan service.

But, yeah, again, she was super fun to draw. There's no denying that her current design is really likable and sexy (I love the color on her pig tails. It reminds me of Italian ices), so I had to draw her. Not to discredit Margot Robbie, she's a beautiful girl, but she's really not my type and I personally didn't find her sexy, but the outfit was noice. I do find it odd that Harley has become known as THE sex symbol of Batman, though, since it's a FACT - Poison Ivy's the hottest :D

yeah I can feel you on harley, especially the new outfit (well old) I always liked her costume from the animated batman series over the punk rock goth thing. Awesome drawing all the same though lol

Here's a featurette on it with a bit of the trailer to get a rundown on it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=2QpTNl…
It's more of a lighter toned batman movie it seems

Batman  TAS  Harley  was  actually  an  alright  character, definitely  not  the  BEST  Animated  Series  debut  characters, but  okay. This  modern  version  of  her  basically  is  just  a  Suicide  Girl  who's  into  clown  makeup. Though  I've  seen  that  DC  Superhero  Girls  version  of  her  and  Poison  Ivy, and  I  actually  kinda  like  the  "hero"  re-brand  of  them. She  basically  comes  off  as  "Deadpool  Lite"  to  me.

And  with  everything  said, I  do  have  to  agree, that  outfit  is  pretty  drokkin'  sexy!!!

I'd be OK with them polishing the character to be a hero, but at the same time, she has a history of murder, torture, and a plethora of other terrible deeds. I feel like rebranding her as a hero for little girls is only going to get said children researching the character deeper and learning of the messed up truth to her.

And thank you :)

Anybody who thinks Harley is a role model is stupid. Before she met Joker, according to her original story, she was seducing college professors for passing grades, so she wasn't even smart enough to get a degree without essentially cheating.

And don't forget DC playing up Harley's relationship with Poison Ivy to full-blown lovers despite how in Batman:TAS, Ivy only hung out with Harley out of total pity for her and would not hesitate to throw her to the man-eating plants if she had to save herself.

Yeah, Harley's just about the worst role model in the entire Batman world, honestly. And I agree, the Harley and Ivy sub plot was definitely mostly just expanded into a romance for fan service.

I still prefer the classic design.
But the movie design is always pretty good to draw :P

This just reinforces my previous thought that Suicide Squad would've worked better as an animated film. (... Well, kinda...)

Great work as usual!

Thanks. Suicide Squad certainly would have worked better in animation. That movie was just... ugh....

Great work on Harley! She's always fun to draw and there's lots of fun outfits to draw her in. This one isn't my favorite, but I do like the pigtails.
Harley is a great addition to the Batman series, but I do agree about the fanbase... They're pretty much as crazy as she is!

Yeah, I felt she would have been a better character if used sparingly, like she was in the animated series. Once she became one of the main Batman characters I feel she kind of ruined the franchise.

Yeah, 90's nostalgia at it's worse, and I didn't even grow up with Batman:TAS.

Batman the Animated Series was a damn good show, and the character I thought was tolerable as a unique concept in the show, but then she just took over DC completely.

Nice drawing and all, but idk who this character is... She looks about as much like Harley Quinn as that slut from Suicide Squad!

lol. Yeah, kind of weird that she's still named after a harlequin but just looks like a slutty little leaguer.

And Leto's Joker isn't any better. Just a crazy gangster really.
