Despite the fact that I grew up with a generation that prefers the anime style better than the american styles(Parts of Anime are overrated in my opinion),I like Simon's original design better than his nowadays design. Why? Despite his original design being a generic 80's design,it is the Simon Bellmont I always think of when I hear Castlevania. His nowaday design looks like a generic anime design(I've seen alot of anime thanks to a friend of mine). This design makes me think of the game, his now design makes me think of generic anime.

I agree. Sure, the original one looked like Conan the Barbarian from the Arnold flick, but being that he's a dude who just marches into Dracula's castle with nothing more than a whip, killing everything in his path and eating meat he finds in a wall, I feel that's what he should look like. The new one not only looks like a member of WHAM dressed in a costume designed by Lady Gaga, but he also looks like any anime "badass". I liked the Castlevania series better when its artwork wasn't anime based but more based on paintings that resembled the art of old horror movies, being that that was most of the inspiration for the series. I find anime very emotionless. Its hard to set a good mood when the art style is anime.

I personally found the old Castlvania games more interesting than the new castlvania thanks to James Rolfe. Looking like a member of WHAM doesn't sound right to be honest. Mostly because WHAM's designs are a bit bright. His new design looks more nowadays goth anime(this is because his redesign was made by the same character designer from death note). I can't fully agree on you with Anime being emotionless. Yes there are some anime that have characters look the same, yes they don't do a lot of over expressive faces like ren and stimpy(and when they do its awkward to me),yes there is too much dialogue(Dragon Ball Z is a good example),but the Miyazaki films are a lot of fun and show anime have more emotion than the manga adaptions.

Simon is a REAL Belmont, and not at all like that sissy-boy Richter who spams Hydro Storm everywhere he goes.

Dammit, we need a proper return to the super-hard, super-simple Castlevanias of old. All those "Metroidvanias", constant ret-cons, and bishonen character designs have utterly destroyed what made the series memorable.

I can't agree more. I miss the rugged manly Belmonts who went in simply with a whip and a few projectiles, looking like Conan. I really wish we'd get a retro-style Castlevania with intense difficulty. I liked Symphony of the Night a lot when I first played it since it was so original, but now it's just become the staple for all Castlevanias which are all easy, redundant and full of sissy dudes who would look more at place in Rocky Horror Picture Show than Castlevania.

Well, the most recent classic Castlevania was a WiiWare remake of the first Game Boy game (Adventure ReBirth), and that was pretty rough. Still, it wasn't quite like the true old-school brutality that the series had.

Also, I don't know which of the games you've played, but one that I particularly like is the version made for the X68000 computer in Japan. Konami brought it over in the form of "Castlevania Chronicles" for the PS1 (just avoid the Arrange Mode).

Pretty sure I played chronicles. It's just a shame that the only new retro-style ones are just remakes.

It almost look like that failed pilot starring Patrick Warbutton, but if there really will be a Castlevania TV cartoon, Patrick Warburton would do the voice of Simon Belmont.

Never actually heard of the failed pilot, actually. They were going to make a Castlevania cartoon?

It was a GREAT game. If you still haven't played it, you should definately track down a copy and do so, as well as IV on the SNES and SOTN on the PSX. Not saying all the others in between aren't good, but in my opinion those are the best.

Thanks. Yeah, I based it on the Castlevania NES cover. I got the idea to blend Dracula's face with the full moon from a Symphony of the Night drawing I did way back in high school.
