Dragon and Unicorn

Unicorn and dragon - often depicted as mortal enemies, the representation of good and evil - are shown here as fierce protector and beloved.

This is an alternative, personal version of my commission done for L0v3lylights

Great job. 🤩 I love it. 😍 The dragon looks like he's in a protective stance over the sleeping unicorn. Great feel to the picture.

Beautiful work, I like how delicate the unicorn looks compared to the dragon.

Wouldn’t say that dragons are “often evil”...

I love your anatomy and everything here.   also, wow, those wing 'shoulder' muscles are enormous.

Thanks Leopard! I took inspiration on dragon anatomy from my favourite fantasy artist - Todd Lockwood. He is a legend!

The shoulder muscles are huge, I agree, which might look disconcerting to some. To me they are believable. How else can you lift two tons into the sky?

Happy holidays ahead to you!

The original one still looks better in my opinion. Sweating a little...
First reason being, that the overall body-language speaks the same thing in original piece. That is watchful relaxation.
In this piece, the dragon's body language feels a bit mismatched. The head seems to be stiff, alerted, almost challenging (especially with the wings opening up), but neck still keeps the relaxation.
Also the unicorn isn't alerted at all, which mixes the feelings of the picture even more so.
I'd like to note that I mirror my points in a body language of felines, canines, equines and human quite heavily. I have very little to no experience in reptiles and their non-verbal signs.
It is still very beautiful work! My preference just tend to go more towards the more realistic one rather than to visually beautiful. I am a dummy!

Thanks so much for your feedback, Zuci - it's exactly what I'm looking for. Seeing your points, I agree that there is a disharmony in poses, as if the unicorn is unaware of the dragon's fierce protectiveness. In a way, I found that to make her, the unicorn, more serene and isolated, whereas it made the dragon more like we know dragons to be: obsessive and near-aggressive. The neck may look too relaxed, though, indeed.

Keeping these thoughts (gratefully) in mind for next time. :)
