Crystal Dragon - Reference

Coloured pencil and pen, 2018.

Ten years after the original and very first gem dragon reference for D&D, here is another one. Ten years!

There are five dragon races under each dragon category (chromatic, metallic, and gem), so in theory, the crystal dragon would have to be the last of them in my collection, too. However, the 4th one that I'd made, the ruby one, isn't in the Monster Manual II i.e. the sourcebook which had prompted me to make these references in the first place. So rejoice! There's going to be one more to go after this one, at least! Sometime. :)

According to resources, crystal dragons are the friendliest of the gem dragons. They are always curious about the world, so they enthusiastically converse with willing visitors. Crystal dragons prefer the Elemental Plane of Air, but they sometimes build incredible ice palaces atop high, cold mountain peaks on the Material Plane, where they can watch the stars and create sculptures out of ice and snow.

Do you have a favourite?

This is amazing and perfect! May I use this for a homebrew creation on DnDbeyond?

Hi Diablo, what a kind comment! I'd be flattered if you used this dragon in your homebrew campaign. Do you see it as an enemy or ally?

Happy Easter :)

Really like the way you made the tail on this one.
And you've made some very complimentary colour choices. You deserve praise for that =)

If I should nitpick (and let's be honest, it wouldn't be me if I didn't...) I'm not too fond of the shadows/lines around where the back legs meet the body. They seem too um.. heavy.. or solid, compared to the more delicate colours surrounding it. Doesn't bother me on the crystals - probably because I like that they're more defined.

Love the see-through effect on the wings! That might be what prompted the husband to ask if it was finished though. Mere mortals don't understand the see-through effect ;)

Curses! Now I get the urge to draw dragons

Shadowheart! Praise and productive criticism in both - your comment's the all-in-one package.
Thank you for taking the time to write. I'll take these points to heart when I tackle the next colourful beast. :)
Hope you have a good day!

Hi Az! Thank you, you are so kind. I love D&D as well, even if I currently have no place to play it. Someday soon again, maybe. :)
Your comment makes me smile!

Damn tge colours are so smooth! What pencils are you using? :)
BrassDragon's avatar
Hi there Tank! Thank you! :) The pencils I'm using are in fact of the super cheap kind; children's coloured pencils by the name of Carioca. But: I have an amazing new pencil sharpener from Faber-Castell which has helped me keep the pencils sharper than ever. That made a real difference.

Sometimes cheap pencils are better :D I also use pencils from a childrens crowd called Crayola and they do the job :)
