Nice capture!
You might be interested to know that the correct spelling for species names is to capitalize the genus, but not the species. So to also make the name of your picture pleasing to taxonomists among us, it should be Cladonia fimbriata !
Cheers,
Red

Thanks for the tip, but this is titled as a piece of art and not an entry in a taxonomy book. I will capitalize titles of my works however I want. :)

I don't see a reason why art should disregard spelling just because it's art; nor do I see a reason why scientists should make ugly pictures of organisms just because it's science - actually I don't see a reason why art and taxonomy should be opposed, as your picture proves very well.

Of course, your call if you think the capitalization in the title adds something to your art! But if it doesn't, I wanted to point out that it creates a mental discrepancy to whomever has studied science, NOT just dusty taxonomy books readers. Just as if you would entitle a painting Pope Benedict 16, it would sound like a steampunk character, which might or might not be desirable regarding the painting.

I think good art breaks rules and expectations because it wants to, not because it doesn't know them.

I titled it how I did because I wanted to - not because I feel art and taxonomy should be opposed. Just as some people might not like how I title my works, some people might also find you annoying when you bark advice at them that wasn't asked for. At any rate, you're not important by any stretch of the imagination, so I'll take your pro tips with a fine grain of salt and carry on with my life.
