Sortilege - Revised, 3rd Person
“You saw it all didn’t you. You saw my change. Don’t deny it human, I saw YOU as well. I have to wonder why you were watching me, though, especially that late at night. Did you happen to look up, or were you staring....?” a voice growled at him as Tristan was slammed into the wall of his still dark apartment. Tristan let out a small “oof” as he was turned around slammed into the wall again. His attacker was just visible in the city lights filtering in through the windows. It was that guy. The one from the next building over who he saw do...something last night. This guy was hot, silver blond hair medium length, good build in a tight shirt and nice arms ending in...taloned hands!
“Ha. I smell your embarrassment, human, and your lust. This amuses me. I was simply going to kill you and be done with it. In a city this size, your death would neither be noticed nor remarked upon,” the guy growled. “Ahhh, there’s the fear. You know w

Ha. I smell your embarrassment, human, and your lust. This amuses me. I was simply going to kill you and be done with it. In a city this size, your death would neither be noticed nor remarked upon. Ahhh, there’s the fear. You know what I am, yet that was the first fear I’ve smelled on you. Good. It means this will be worthwhile after all. So be a good boy and keep your mouth shut. I’m gonna tell you a story. Then I’m going to peer into your soul. If I like what I see, well then you get to live and we might explore that amusing lust of yours. If I don’t, well there are hungry ghouls in the sewers under this building. You’ll make them a fine meal.
Yes, ghouls. Didn’t I say to keep quiet? But fine, it’s as good a

The Anniversary Murder
The Anniversary Murder
by David Ramos
A man is standing at a door, back to the street, and is trying to open it. He is an ordinary man, extraordinary only because he is so remarkably ordinary. Over one shoulder, he is carrying a tote bag. The house itself is also fairly ordinary, the scene one seen in suburbs around the country. The door opens, slowly, to show the man in silhouette. He enters the house, slowly, looking around. It is obvious he doesn't know the place very well. He stops at the foot of the stairs and leaves a large gift-wrapped box, sparkle letters on the bow proclaiming “Happy Anniversary”. The man goes slowly up the stairs, passing some tasteful, bland wall art and a wedding photo while trailing red rose petals. He arrives on the second floor, opening two doors, but not going inside. He is looking for something…
He reaches the door at the end of the hall. The door opens slowly, and in a repeat of his earlier entrance, the man is again silhouetted in

Exploring Nihilism Through Works By, and About, Friedrich Nietzsche
"Who hopes for life, to him despair accrues./Who hopes for nothing, has no life to lose." These closing lines from Roger Wescott's poem "Nihilism" are a poignant way to begin a discussion on nihilism. Friedrich Nietzsche could be called the father of nihilism, as the concept is most ascribed to his philosophy. He pioneered the diagnoses of nihilism for wester

Harry Potter and the Villainous Headmaster: Why Albus Dumbledore is an Antagonist
"It is our choices...that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities." This bit of sage advice from Headmaster Albus Dumbledore in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is fitting, as it is a stepping stone to his own condemnation. Albus Dumbledore, the venerable Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, is more than what he seems. He is a Machiavellian schemer, who hides his misdeeds behind the mantra of the "greater good". Dumbledore's crimes against Harry, indeed against the whole of the Hogwarts student body and even the whole Wizarding World, are numerous and damning. Albus Dumbledore is not a protagonist of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (or the rest of the series), he is an antagonist whose misdeeds do great harm to Harry and his schoolmates.
Dumbledore's misdeeds begin in the prologue of

A Satirical Elegy: An Analysis of E.E. Cummings's "I sing of Olaf"
E.E. Cummings's "I sing of Olaf" is a poem about war, patriotism and what it means to be a conscientious objector during war. The poem can be seen as a satire on the aspects of patriotism and the Army as it certainly launches an attack upon those ideas fraught with irony. But "I sing of Olaf" has qualities more akin to an elegy, a poem dedicated to the lament for the dead, along the lines of Walt Whitman's "When Lilacs Last in the Door-yard Bloom'd." Cummings launches an attack here, but it is not wholly satirical and is contained in the larger framework of an elegy to Olaf and the values of patriotism Cummings sees violated within the Army.
A satire is the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people's stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues. Cummings certainly does some of thi
