As part of deviantART Staff Appreciation Week, StaffAppreciation has organized interviews with our staff members so that we can get to know them a little bit better!
This interview was conducted by the ever-awesome bradleysays! Thank you to him, and a big thanks to damphyr for taking the time to participate!
How are you?
Good as one can be
Could you give us a brief description of what you do, in terms of working for deviantART?
I'm the senior member of the CEA. My duties include the moderation desk handling reports from the community, Help Desk tickets sent in, educating the community and just general search-and-destroy for porn, trolls, etc.
Was joining the dA team a passion or dream, or was it something you happened to get into just as a job?
I was a volunteer for deviantART for several years before I was asked to join as a full-time member of staff, so it really was a dream. After all, who doesn't want to get paid for doing what they'd do for free?
What is the hardest part of your job?
At first it was the shock images and such, but I got desensitized to it pretty quickly. Now it's mostly dealing with the back-and-forth of community frustration and those deviants who are super friendly to us on our pages then are angry and insulting in other places.
Let's move away from the negatives now, what is the best part of your job?
I get to interact with and help some of the most amazing, inspiring and talented people on the Internet. I see something new every day and feel genuinely privileged to be able to help out the community.
How has deviantART changed your life?
I left college with no real idea of what I wanted to do, but dA helped me find my passion and helped me chase many dreams. I've moved half way across the country for dA, have been given the opportunity to meet some of my favorite artists and writers, both in person and online, and have more art and inspiration in my life than I know what to do with.
What is the most bizarre bug or glitch you've ever seen or heard of on deviantART?
I was not only around for, but sucked into the infamous Guatemala Day! It is the stuff of legend now, and it delights me.
How do you feel about dA Staff Appreciation Week (dASAW)?
I think it's very sweet of you all, I do love the community and it's very fun to be getting some love back. Thank you guys!
What is your favourite thing about the deviantART community?
I love seeing deviants come together and inspire each other. There can be a bit of viciousness and drama now and again, but it's really exciting for me to see artists create together.
Which deviant could you never live without?
I practically live on the site and that question is so totally not fair! I cannot answer!
If dA was a planet, what do you think it would look like?
I think it would be as diverse as it's artists. From big cities to wooded mountains filled with mythical creatures, both vivid colors and monochromatic. Basically, I think it would be like the one we live in, only 20% cooler.
Thank you so much for allowing me to interview you and for being apart of deviantART Staff Appreciation Week 2011! Would you like to leave us with an inspirational quote?
It's my pleasure, thanks to you and everyone who put in their time and effort to this week!
My quote: Live, laugh and love. The rest is just background noise.
Thanks to damphyr!
August 8th: Moonbeam13
Stay tuned for more interviews!
If you are interested in participating in festivities from now till 14 August, then just StaffAppreciation! We have a lot planned.
You will be missed my dear friend, @endorell-taelos. I haven’t spoken to you for some time now but you were always in my thoughts. You were one of the first friends I made on DeviantArt and you pushed me to accomplish what I did here. Such heartbreaking news.

Community Volunteers - A Memoir!
You may recently have seen -> Our Favourite Memories and Moments an awesome article written by fourteenthstar (https://www.deviantart.com/fourteenthstar) bringing together lots of dA staff members memories and moments. So The Community Volunteers got chatting and we decided we needed our own collection of memories - because we have some awesome ones! With the merge of the Gallery Moderators and MN@ Volunteers has come the collaboration of one BIG team and it's lovely getting to know the 'other side' so to speak. So it's with great delight that I share our massive response to fourteenthstar (https://www.deviantart.com/fourteenthstar)'s article with Community Volunteers - Our Memories BurgerBunny (https://www.deviantart.com/burgerbunny) `BurgerBunny (https://www.deviantart.com/burgerbunny) I cannot p
