So lately I've been working my nuts off to make up for being out of work earlier this year due to an injury related to my diabetes. Been putting in 60 hours a week which means despite my best efforts I end up falling asleep with my Cintiq in my lap as I try and work on art. However with the influx of income, I bought an iPad Pro (12.9 inch) for fairly cheap at the pawn shop. Been watching :iconrobertmarzullo: on youtube for a long while now and he started using an iPad Pro for art and I was stunned by the results, plus you can't beat the portability of it. Started off practicing with Procreate (because its free) before subscribing to the Clip Studio Paint app ($25 a year). A cheap price but it still rankles me that I can just buy the full program for my Mac but I gotta subscribe to use an app. That aside I can't knock how much I like it and the fact that I can work in the same format no matter what I happen to be using (MacBook or iPad). Felt a little weird drawing on it at first with the Apple Pencil and all but I'm growing to love it perhaps even more than my Cintiq. I can hold it like a sketchbook and no more temperamental F'ing cords to deal with. Hopefully since I can take this to work with me I can get more art done when business is slow. Its been driving me crazy to have such low output.

So this page is the final full reveal of our lovely "little" sea beastie. Its supposed to be a lamprey kaiju but it ended up looking more like some mutant leach to me. Turned out more wormy than eel-like and the mouth is all wrong because I wanted to do all these teeth hanging down like on the cover. Lamprey mouths however are physically much more like suction cups with lots of teeth pointing in towards the center. Also they can sort of close their mouths which can make them look like either a scary penis or a shit weasel from Stephen King's Dreamcatcher.

This is excellent. I watched a documentary on this Paleo artist, a guy who draws dinosaurs, and he said the trick to making something look massive is moving the horizon line down low. The horizon line is used to great effect here, and the hero character on the right for scale is excellent too. This creature feels imposing and massive. Just excellent work

Thanks, and yeah I used just those techniques to make the big reveal of my beastie...well BIG. There are lots of little tricks like that used in both art and filmmaking.
