I have been intrigued by all of the activity in the space and landscape scene. It is like everyone has decided to release new work in the past week, I am loving it.

So I was reading through some TerraSpace comments and noticed a deviant comment on the main page of the artgroup. I decided to check him out and I found something oh so good…

BorisBello
:iconborisbello: :iconborisbello: :iconborisbello:

He said something along the lines that he enjoyed our art, and it stopped us in our tracks. I am wondering if he has looked at his own gallery in awhile? ;) I hope you find his work as awesome as I do.

Yello,

It has been awhile. Quick question, if I was to write an in-depth tutorial/walkthough, what would you want the topic to be?

Devious Journal Entry

Journal Entry: Thu Feb 1, 2007, 5:19 PM
Oh man.

Hah, how do I start this? Tis crazy. Hows everyone doing?

I will start this little journal out with  a shameless plug to the best artgroup ever.
:iconterraspace::iconterraspace::iconterraspace::iconterraspace::iconterraspace:.

Guess what Terraspace is hosting? A contest! Zinger. It is a big one as well. We have some prizes involved. Yeah, and anyone can join, so cmon show those artists up! Show em! Just visit the journal to get some information, it is well worth it.
terraspace.deviantart.com/

Ah man, I miss making scenes. I cannot wait till i get the hang of Terragen2. I gotta tell ya I really like it, but do not expect anything to soon!!.... Be right back, I am going to go play some Gears of War, maybe that will spark my journal writing abilities....

Alright, back. Speaking of games, what system are you into? My brother and I have invested in a Xbox 360 and a PS3. The 360 is winning me over, but the only reason it is doing that is because of the games. The PS3 has nothing to play! The PS3 has to be the better system, it is built so well, and it has a great UI, but the games are just bleh!(whats a game system without games?). I actually looked at my dApage on my tv through the PS3 internet browser, how cool is that? I have given up on any computer games, the game industry does not like my mac ;).

So anyway, I hit 20,000 pageviews a couple days ago, thats pretty cool. I cant believe people still come to my page! Its so inactive at the moment, I hope to change that soon though.

Thats what I got, I hope you did not waste to much time reading this! Shazzaaaaam.

'Life is hectic.... Thank you very much.

Journal Entry: Fri Oct 6, 2006, 10:49 AM
Things have been hectic! Wanna take a seat?

I want to start of this journal with a big thanks. Alexei Nameless-Designer created a CSS journal for me! What a pal. Doesn't it look nice? I would have never used the CSS function if it wasn't for him .

Like I said, life has been a bit hectic. Where should I start? Lets start with school. School is still "pretty cool". I am not going to lie, I enjoy going to most of my classes. Psychology is the only bummer of the day. Other then that class I am really enjoying myself. Classes, for the most part, are harder, but I enjoy studying for them, so it really isn't that bad. Ask me if I enjoy school in a couple months though, I am betting I will have a different answer ;).

I am actually taking an Art History class this semester. I have mixed feelings about it. I really enjoy looking at the art, and figuring out how certain variables influenced the artist, but I also have a deep dislike for art when I listen to the lecture. I enjoy listening to peoples opinions on art, but I really despise it when we are told to take these opinions and observations as fact. I hate it when I hear, "Now this certain element is meant to evoke the feeling of an overpowering oppressor. This is what the artist was trying to convey", or something along those lines. I hate it when these opinions are pushed upon us as facts. I hear this all the time in this class, and it kind of annoys me. Why should we take the observations and opinions of art historians as factual data collected from a certain piece of art? How can a certain individual tell  us how another individual setup a work? I only respect the artists interpretations of his/ her own work. Why am I learning the interpretations of some random historian?

Alright, I am done being negative! Guess what I got? Cmon, guess? I got a camera! A Canon 300d (digital rebel) to be exact. My lord, I never realized how fun cameras could be. I am having a blast learning how to use this thing!  I have always enjoyed looking at certain photography. I really like macro photography and nature photography, so thats where I am heading in my "photographic  career".  I have to give a thank you to ladyrapid. He really motivated me to drop a couple bills on a camera. And finally, thank you to my pop's friend, he gave me a great deal on a camera! I am now just broke, not in debt because of him! Chyeah...

I hope to get a macro lens in the next six or so months. I really enjoy taking close up shots, they seem to be the most interesting. I like the idea of capturing a view that normally is not seen, and with macro work that is almost a given attribute of a capture. I hope to get a wide angle lens in the next year or so as well. So I can capture some awesome landscapes and cloudscapes. We will see how this hobby goes :D.

TerraSpace?!? Oh yeah. Things seem to be going well. I believe our next pack is just going to blow you guys away. We are just getting over a somewhat rough time over there, but I believe it is going to really help out the group in the long run. I cannot wait to see what these guys create. I know I have some awesome scenes planned with a couple other artists, but I am not naming names! I am hoping in the near future we will be seeing Terraspace as a genre stepping into a new stage, and I am going as far as to saying you guys are going to love it....

So why haven't I submitted much? Good question. I think its manly because of unfinished projects. I really do have a lot of scenes to work on, but I cannot finish them! Argh. I just might be submitting some pure Terragen work, just to get it off of my hard drive! We will see though. I also want to maybe write a paper on overhangs in Terragen, but I have a feeling that will never see the light of day either :(. I think it would be fun to do though, argh. I need some sort of direction. What would you  want to see from me?

I better wrap this up, I am sure I have lost about half of my readers by now! Have you guys ever looked back on your "artistic career" and laughed at the fact that you are somewhere that you never thought you would be? I remember nearly two years ago I got a new computer, and I was somewhat interested in making forum signatures. So i decided to start that up. That was my first serious (if you want to call sig making a serious art!) experience with art. Now look at where I am! It is crazy. I would have never thought I would be making scenes with various programs, and experimenting with the idea of macro photography! It is funny how life can change....

Yello,

Hows everyone doing? I myself am doing pretty well. Today was my first day of college, which was interesting. I am stumbling around with a couple of pieces of art, I have a couple of collabs in progress as well. I have trouble finding what I want to do. sumopiggy has been really inspiring me to paint, but eh, I just lost alot of freetime! Which sucks, but hey whatchya gunna do. So tell me, how its going?

Yello everyone.

Lifes pretty good, I am not going to complain. Well, Summer is a third over, which is somewhat saddening, but hey, whatchya gunna do. I have been so lazy the past month! Hah, you do not even know. So about life... Eh. I have come to the decision to study Architectural Engineering for my first year of college, after my first year I am going to dive head first into architecture at either UNL, K-state, or University of Iowa. I have come to the conclusion that Architectural Engineering is not for me. I will not find that genre of work appealing in 10 years. So that is that, we will see how this unfolds .

Two nights ago I went to my first fireworks show of the year. Man, I forgot how awesome fireworks are! I love the small shockwaves they create. Hah, it was odd, all I could think of was exploding stars and Nebulae. Odd. I cannot wait to blow some stuff up! hah.

Well on to art. I have so many damn scenes floating around in my head. It is almost kind of annoying. I want to start each on, but the problem is, I never finish the others. So I am just going to forget about all of them! I was actually trying to create a good overhang in Terragen when I found a pretty cool POV and terrain setup for a cave render. I have never done one of these, so I am going to ride with it and see where this render brings me. Hopefully this will be a somewhat smple project, but who knows. It will be more of a practice piece, but it will still be fun. This talk of art brings me to a question that I ask myself alot, and I would like to see others opinion on the matter. As I stroll through various landscape galleries I find alot of disturbing images. Well, they really would not be so disturbing, but the description really throws me. In the past month I have really seen an increase in the amount of "painted" scenes. The only problem is, well they are not painted! I constantly see these terragen images that are filtered and blurred to create a painted feel. This goes even deeper though, you even see this sort of behavior in the Celestial art genre as well! I will stumble upon a Nebula that has a familiar cloudscape manipulated into it. I go and actually find the stock on sxc.hu or another stock site to make sure I am not going crazy. There is nothing wrong with this, hell I always use stocks in my images! The problem though is there was no talk of this stock usage in the description! In some cases the deviants go as far as using a play on words to create the idea that they painted the stock. I see this on all levels as well, from the beginners to the well known celestial, landscape, and Terraspace artists. I dont understand, there is nothing wrong with using stocks, nothing! Why is it so many people try to hide the use of them? Or better yet, why do people go as far as trying to create the idea of a painted image with stock images? Meh, help me out guys. Well, I can see the arguement of if the stock is a subtle addition to the scene, then it is somewhat stupid to tell you used one in the description. I can relate to that, and I can see your point. Well, I think I am done with this so called "rant"

So, Hows everyone doing?

Excited? Bah!

I guess alot has happened since the 11th of April, which is my last journal date. On the 21st of that same month I turned 18.. :wtf: :omfg:. Twas crazy. Not to much later I was accepted to a couple of colleges for a couple of different studies. I acquired the one I wanted, which was the chance to study Architectural Engineering here at Peter Kiewit Institute. So I guess I was pretty hyped about that. I finished up my highschool career just a couple of weeks ago, and finally graduated! Shazzam! So thats that...

As I look into the future I see something that I was not expecting. I think I am going to have to leave art for a long time in a couple of months. I have realized that college life isnt going to allow to much art. Which kinda sucks, well I am not gunna lie, I am going to miss it lots. It makes me wonder if I am making the right choice. Sure, I love physics, and I am a fan of math, but my lord, the last year art has truly been my passion. By no means do I think I can go into any sort of vfx job, but I tihnk I should maybe follow my dream, which has always been architecture. Bah, decisions decisions.

there are 5 psd's I am currently working on, hopefully everyone of them will be submitted, but who knows. I am finally starting to enjoy looking at what I create. Although I am nowhere where I want to be I feel I have finally gotten "sorta good". I wonder where I will be at in one year. Well, I tihnk it is time to maybe get a print account. I want to sell my art at this coffee shop by my house, maybe I can make some sort of profit... bleh... I subscription is about to end in a couple of hours, or minutes, I couldnt really tell you, interesting. I think I might get another, but who knows.

The End.

'Tigaer' rofl :D

Tigaer? What does that mean? Well one can find out the answer by doing one of two things. By reading Chris's aka tigaer's biography, OR you could go to urbandictionary.com and type his name in the search function . Oh hell, here is the www.urbandictionary.com/define… . I got a good laugh out of it. I hope you do as well. Sorry Chris.

Well now that I have got that off my chest I would like to ramble. I am having fun trying to learn how to paint, my lord is it fun. I gotta tell you, its a bit more rewarding then TG renders ;). I have said that I will never let go of Terragen, and I still believe that, but I want to start getting into Matte painting and/or concept art. Hopefully in ten years ill be somewhat decent at painting ;). Well hopefully. On a side now I am working on a Terragen piece. This most likely will be my last tg piece until Terragen2's beta comes out ( by the way, I already have my money saved up for tg2! yes! :highfive:). This one is gunna be cool and will be for the "Goodbye" pack over at :iconterrapro:.

By the way, as a admin over at TerraPro I urge everyone that belongs to Terrapro to invest a large amount of time into there "goodbye" piece. This pack is special so lets do some crazy renders. Remember there is no restrictions so go crazy and create some breathetaking scenes .

Man I need to get a cool avatar, journal header, and journal footer. Damn design :|

And finally.....

Things have been pretty hectic around here. Getting ready for college and just being lazy has gotten to me. I have a couple pieces on the way, and I have plenty of collabs in the works. Although you guys havnt been seeing much of my work I have been really working on my art. Most of the renders are going off to other artists and alot of my daily practices are not being released, but I can promise you I am not hanging my coat up :).

Some of you might know I recently got another gig of ram for my computer, so I have 1.5 now! Its pretty cool. I gotta tell you, it is so much better making art now! Well anyway... I hope to get some prints up for you guys, but I really want to get a print account first, so I gotta save up or get my parents to buy me one. Meh, oh well.

Drop a line so I have someone to talk to :).

PS: I have been working on a Terragen render that I have a problem with. I have a great terrain with a pretty nice overhang, but I also want to have it more panoramic, If anyone has worked with multible rendering for panoramic stitching could they please give me a couple pointers on how to get the camera at the correct angle? I am trying to figure out a mathmatical equeation, but I much rather just have someone give me a good hint ;).

Back up and running

Hello to all,

First off, how is everyone doing? I hope everyene is doing fine. I am doing alright, It is all good over here in Nebraska. I went back to school today, boy was it hard. It is all good though, we have finals comming up in the next week, and then after that we have another four days off! Good times :D.

Well Like the title says, Im am back up and running. I got photoshop along with a couple of other programs :D. Although Photoshop is very similar on the mac OS it is a bit different, so I will have to get used to it. I have decided to just wait till the new terragen comes out. I will be still making tg pieces up till then, thankfully my brother has my old computer so I will render on his computer :giggle:

I do not have much more to tell ya guys......

Yup, I wrote a journal

Sun Dec 25, 2005, 11:38 PM
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Hello ladies and genteleman,

I have not written a journal in a long time. I tend to drift away from this thing. Oh well, I have alot of news for you. First off I would like to tell everyone I am officially a mac guy . And let me tell you, my first impression of my new iMac is great. It does everything you want without any sort of bullshit. But only time will tell, I wont say this is a wonderful piece of engineering yet, but i THINK down the line it will come to that. It is somewhat funny though, it takes me about ten times longer to do one thing because I am so unfamilar with this OS. Oh well, as time goes on this fault will disappear . In a couple of days I will be getting Photoshop so I will be back to working on all the WIPs I have on my windows HD. I gotta tell you, I am proud of the stuff I am working on, I just need enough ram to finish it. Unfortunetly the guys over at compUSA gave my dad the 512mb imac version instead of the 1gig version, but it all worked out because now my dad is just going to get me a gig of ram so I will have a total of 1.5gig :highfive: It is weird how things work out isnt it?

Well off to my next piece of information. This is dealing with Terragen. I think this will take a little longer to acquire, I dont know if I want to buy the registered version of it since the beta for TG2 is due out in a matter of weeks. Yes, yes i know some of you are thinking "oh my f****** God Brent, You will get a discount if you buy it, you  are such a nooblarar" but guess what, I know! I most likely will get the registered version, just not any time soon. All my focus will be on tg2 when it comes out, so why waste the money right away? Until i come up with a good answer to that question there will not be any sort of Terragen icon on this mac :(.

On to some personal news,. I am not looking forward to this upcomming New Years. It is my late grandpas birthday and I have a feeling its going to bring alot of tears to the family :(. I have alot of great memories that have to do with my grandpa, so its going to be hard thinking about them. Oh well, I am looking forward to seeing him when I get to heaven

Man I am sorry, this is getting to be a long journal, heh and I said I tend to stray away from these things? Maybe I need to write more! But anyway, I rescently took my ACTs. I have been putting them off for one sole reason, I dread tests. I hate tests with all my guts. I do not agree with a test like the ACTs, but I gotta take em! DAMMMMIT! I am pretty confident with myself though, I kept calm and i knew most of the answers, I could solve for all of my math questions, but the time killed me, I left a couple blank :(. Oh well, I need a 24 and I am into the college I want to be at. Something tells me that I can get higher then a 24, I feel confident that my next ACT will be above this number .

Well that is all ladies, its been fun typing this, partly because I love this keyboard ;).

Brent's Story

Mon Oct 24, 2005, 6:33 PM

Well I will start this off by saying the seventy dollar power supply that I bought didnt help my computer problems. So now I brought the pc into the place i bought it from. I was trying to get around bringing it there because it takes them ages to fix my pc. I am very sad. All I want to do is open up terragen and make a thousnad plus landscapes that are floating in and around my head. I truely dont know what to do with my time when i get home from school. I cant wait to get my computer back..... I am sad.... Sorry for the shitty journal, I have no motivation to write a nice well thought out one...

My computer is in a coma...

Well guys, sad news.... I think my computer bit the dust today... Which means I have to save up once again for another computer... I am hoping to God it is just the power supply, but something tells me it isnt. I honestly am so amazingly mad right now. All I want to do is open up terragen and photoshop, but cant! All of my collabs including my Terraspaces will be on hold, they might not even get done :(. I also dont have much time to make up 40 things about myself so that will have to come at a later date, but I promise you it will get done! Now I have to start thinking about how I am going to get my funding for the new computer... Bah I might have to go get a job! how fast do you think i can make 2 grand? ( yea if im gunna save up again itll be a monster of a computer .)

So that is my bad news. I am pretty sad about it :(....

Adminship, tutorials, and ART!

Wed Oct 12, 2005, 12:31 PM
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Well guys I have some stuff to talk about! We will start off with the position I recently acquired over at TerraPro. I am now in charge of the mini-contests and the grunt work! Boy am I happy about this. I am glad I can give back to such a good club . I am not going to talk about what I want to do much with the mini-contests, that will come later in TerraPro's journal, but I want to say that I do want to create a fun and welcoming mini-contest that promotes practice and experimentation. Hopefully this will get people to participate a bit more in the newly formed TerraPro feature. So all of you Terragen users better get on over to TerraPro's page and get cracking on the mini-contests!

So now I got that done I would like to talk about what I plan on doing in the next month or so. 1st off the two groups that I belong to have released their next packs. TerraSpace has released their Wasteland pack details which means plenty of good terraspaces are coming your way from all the greatest artists . I myself have a lot going into this pack. I have a collab with MJ00, SamODJ, and possibly one with aiRaGe. I also want to do one by myself so that will be interesting. I believe that pack will be one of the best TerraSpace packs ever. Also, TerraPro has released our new pack that has the theme of Halloween. This will also bring great art to deviantART :D. I plan on submitting a piece for that one as well. I don't have a concept yet though :(. Now I also have some outside collabs that are currently in progress or almost in. adit and I are creating a unique tg collab that most likely be out somewhat soon (if I don't get to lazy). Ladyofspira and I are doing the same sort of collab me and adit are doing. So those will be pretty cool.

|Now finally I get to talk about my large project I am going to be doing. I am planning on writing a VERY in depth tutorial that deals with the combination of Terragen and Photoshop. It will be over what they can do together. It will have so many sub tutorials in it, It will truly be crazy. I have plenty planned for it. Some little tutorials I plan to incorporate into the large tutorial/resource are: Photoshop sun rays, stock cloud addition, Photoshop texturing, sun manipulation, and terrain manipulations. Those are just some of the ideas I have planned. This tutorial will be quite massive . So I hope to get that done in at least the next month :). I want to try to get one page done each day (thats if I am not lazy :|).

Thats All I have to say, Hope you guys found this journal somewhat interesting

Well first off, hows everyone doing? I hope at least some of you are having a good day  Well to start things Off I would like to tell you about my dentist appointment that was moved to last Tuesday. I was so scared as some of you might know.

So I got there and my mom was giving me crap about it, saying "God Brent, your such a little baby" and "Kaiden (he is 5) is better at the dentist then you" . So they call my name and I am nervous! I was walking down the hall and I begin to say "Can I have..." and the nurse replied "Brent, I already have the laughing gas ready" So I was a little releaved when she said that, but I have never had the gas and I didnt know how much it actually helped.... :D I sit down in the chair and put this odd breathing thing in my nose, I start to breath in, after 10 seconds I realized this is not going to be so bad. HOLY CRAP I was in dreamland! I truly could not believe how this felt! It was crazzzy! I didnt have a care in the world, while the dentist was drilling at my teeth i began to think about the sandwich I was going to make when I got home. I didnt have a care in the world. So after about 20 minutes of aimless staring and thinking it was over, now I love the dentist  Like I said in my last journal, God is on my side .

On to other things, I decided I really want to take on another genre. I want to create spaceart amazingly bad! I have always loved spaceart and I have tried it before as well. I do make planets and try simple nebulae, but I really want to dive into the genre and start to really create either spacescapes or terraspaces. I know a certain someone who doesnt want to see this, but dont worry I willl never give up terragen, Im in love with it ;). But back to the spaceart. I have already started my first full-blown peice and it most likely will be done next week. I even have somewhat of a preview for you guys! This was a cropped part of the basic nebula, this was is the very first steps of making it, so its not much, but its something!

Yesterday was supposed a horrible day. I had to visit the dentist :( I knew I had a cavity in the very pack of my mouth and I knew they would be getting out their torture tools to preform minning on my teeth. As one would guess I was not looking forward to this at all. I complained to various friends throughout the day about it and oddly most of them did not mind going to the dentist. I asked why, and their reply was "the gas is fun" Now I have never had laughing gas before, I have just had the shots in the gums, so I had no idea what they were talking about. So my friend Ben tells me that its just great, and I quote " I sometimes try to get cavities so I get the gas" (Addicted maybe? I think so). So now I was kind of excited.... So I go on my merry way and head to the dentist office at 3:15 sharp. I get to the office right on time ( or at least I thought) I begin to sign in and the nurse says " Ahhh Brent, you are a little late".... And I was dumbfounded because I assumed it was at this time, So she says " we will have to reschedule" Angels sang in my ear, I did not beleive I heard this women correctly, So I say "excuse me" And she repeats " we will have to reschedule" I jumped in the air and ran out to the car. It might have been the highlight of the month.... So now I get to worry about going to the dentist until Tuesday rolls around again... :highfive:

The End.

P.S. dont forget to check out my collab with :iconplasmax7: and :icongoran-d:
