Hey guys. I'm in the process of updating the Equestria Girls characters just a little bit and wanted to ask those of you who actually use them in the Desktop Ponies program for some feedback. So far, I've started the names of all Equestria Girls characters with "EgG" so they appear all neatly grouped together in the character selection screen. The drawback is that you can't quickly jump to them by pressing the first letter of their name on your keyboard (since, thanks to the "EqG" bit, they all start with "E").

My question now basically is this: Do you prefer the names as they currently are or are you okay if I removed the "EqG" from all of the character names?

Keep in mind that, either way, I'm adding "Equestria Girls" as a custom tag to all of these characters so you can still easily find them or filter them out once you have added that tag in the options of your own program.

On a somewhat related note, you know how there's this "Norman" character and this other character who's basically a recolor of him that I've so far simply called "Other Norman"? So original, I know. Anyway, I've been toying with the idea of renaming him for the longest time and, seeing how the first Norman is based on his Derpybooru name Normal Norman, I've decided to call this other guy "Eric". As in... well... Generic Eric. So yeah, this just as a small heads-up. I don't really expect the name to catch on, but in the unlikely event that this was your favorite character ever and your future self was worried because they couldn't find him under his original name anymore, well, that's the reason why. And just in case you are curious, the other candidates for the new name were (Ordinary) Larry and (Regular) Reggie. Yeah...

Well, I think that's it. Bye :)

Edit: It's decided now: the "EqG" part will be removed from the beginning of the character names. Thanks for every single person (quite literally one single person) for their feedback. It was much appreciated. :)

F.A.Q.

5 min read
Last Update: June 2015

I've made this F.A.Q. because I get asked the same questions over and over. It may be updated as needed. Please don't think of me as rude if I just refer you to this instead of answering you directly.

Q1: Do you take requests / commissions / art-trades?
:bulletred: Requests and commissions, at this moment, no.
:bulletyellow: Art-trades... eh, maybe. For the time being, you may send me a note if you're interested, just be specific about what you want from me and what you are willing to offer in return. Also, please be aware that I may decline trade-requests for whatever reason. Since I've got quite a few offers by now, I won't accept new trades for the time being. Please check back some other time. :)

Q2: When will you start accepting them?
:bulletred: Maybe someday. Maybe never. If I decide to do so, I'll make an announcement and / or update this FAQ accordingly. Until then, please don't bother asking me.

Q3: Where can I download the program?
:bulletblue: The program can be found at this ponychan thread. It's updated pretty often, so check back every once in a while for the newest version.

Q4: Where can I find your ponies for the program?
:bulletblue: Most of my ponies are either already included with the current versions of the program if they are canon (meaning they appeared in the show) or right here if they are not.
:bulletyellow: Note: If one of my sprites isn't available as a desktop pony, it's either because I didn't finish the entire spriteset yet (in this case, I might or might not get to it at a later date or someone else might make the missing sprites - making Desktop Ponies can often turn into a collaborative effort) or I simply never intended to turn it into a full desktop pony for whatever reason.
You can also visit the Desktop Ponies group on :dalogo: for more info (and even more ponies): :icondesktop-pony-team:

Q5: May I use your sprites?
:bulletblue: If you want to use my desktop pony sprites as an avatar or in your game projects, I'm generally okay with this as long as you give credit (and preferably link back). Just don't claim them as your own or make money of them (and yes, DA points count as money).
:bulletred: However, this does not include simply uploading them to your gallery or making bases of my original animations.
:bulletyellow: Also, keep in mind that I didn't create my sprites with deviantArt-avatars in mind, so most of them would need some cropping/resizing to use them as such. Please don't ask me to do this for you.

Q6: Can you post (insert pony sprite) facing left?
:bulletred: No.
Usually, I don't bother posting sprites for both directions, simply because for the most part they are the same sprites, just mirrored (with maybe some subtle changes).
If you really want to look at my sprites facing left, most of my full Desktop Ponies have them facing both directions (see Q4).

Q7: How do you make those sprites?
:bulletyellow: Personally, I draw all my sprites in Paint Shop Pro 5 and animate the gifs with either MS Gif Animator (which is simple but easy to use and can be downloaded for free here) or with Animation Shop (which came with PSP).
PSP is not free, but pretty much any picture editing program will do, preferably one that supports layers. If you're looking for a free one, try Gimp.
I've also made a simple tutorial for a basic trotting animation which you can find here.

Q8: Can you teach me how to sprite / use certain programs?
:bulletred: No, sorry. Please just search the web or deviantArt for tutorials if you need them.

Q9: Your sprites are contradicting my headcanon! :stupidme:
:bulletblack: Now technically, that's not a question, but I'll answer it anyway.
Not to sound rude, but I don't really care. If you want to tell others about your ideas on what various characters should be like, how they should behave or what they should be named (I still get complaints about how the canonically named Bulk Biceps should be called Snowflake or whatever other names some people prefer), go to your own deviantArt page and write a fanfic or rant about it in your journal or whatever. My comment sections are not the place for that kind of stuff.

Thank you for reading. :thanks:

Hey guys. I just wanted to let you know that the Desktop Ponies project has got its own forum desktopponies.bugs3.com There, you can find the newest versions of the program, templates, tutorials and submit or download non-canon ponies. :)

So, if you are interested in having the Zodiac Ponies run around your screen, I've made them available for download here:

Have fun. =D

About requests

1 min read
I've been repeatedly asked about this lately, so I thought that I should mention this here:

I currently don't take requests.

I appreciate all your comments and this might or might not change sometime in the future, but for the time being, there's really no point in asking me for custom pony sprites. Sorry.
