FULL VIEW NEEDED =)

I had some fun while doing it xP
It was inspired by nothing, the idea just came out of nowhere. I wanted to try something related to France and the age of discovery, but I gave up on that and decided to do something related to those sea stories and myths.

Title inspired by an old sea saying

Thx a lot to

Really cool concept. Looks very scary too, but than again I very much dislike sea monsters. I love the atmosphere you created through the heavy rain and storm and the according colours and tones of the image. The light effect on the water from the sun looks very well done.
The blending in from the ship looks a bit unrealistic, maybe because of the angle of the waves to the angle of the ship. I would try to rework that. The same goes for the huge wave next to the monster, it doesn't look so realistic like the rest, like it stops just before the monster, but that doesn't make much sense.
But otherwise it is a really great image.

Wow. I've had a look at all the resources you used for this, and I can see how you've brought them all together...I was way impressed by this! What an awesome scene. You've done a great job blending it all to fit....what with lighting and tint and all.

Not much stood out to me here by way of critique--just a couple of things. The huge swell of water under the ship is the biggest one. It looks fine, but it's illogical. I can't quite tell what's making the water beneath them surge like that...the rest of the sea isn't nearly choppy enough for it to be the rainstorm...looks fairly mild as far as storms go. Is there another serpent rising beneath it? The end of this monster's tail?

The other thing is a very minor one to my eye...the lighting. It seems the beast should be a bit more backlit...you've got the light source coming far more from the front than it should be...at least that's how it seems to me.

Something you might think of on that ship, if you could make it look right, would be to add a few small human-shaped silhouettes perhaps on the rigging or at the foredeck. That would be a nice touch I think,

Overall, it's an awesome pic! Definite fave.

(Oh and sorry it took so long for the critique, things got a little crazy around here.)

Oh I didn't know you liked Dragon-like sea monsters as well ^^ it reminds me of my Hydra a bit :) (I created it in March and only finished it in June, maybe the God of Sea Monsters sent inspiration to artists all over the world :D )
Nice job but, to my opinion, it lacks some dynamism, the dragon looks too far from the boat to be intimidating, and the monster seems to be in "3D" and the boat in "2D", I don't know how to explain it!

But lovely rendering, nice sea and sky :) keep up the good work!

well technically it still has to do with the age of discovery since people actually believed in sea monsters like that back then. aside from that note, this is a great manip.
