Zootopia in Rio Carnival by borba Zootopia in Rio Carnival by borba
Some time ago, I hurried to do a cleaning in my galleries and in the process I ended up deleting several drawings by accident. This was one of them.

I thanks Raphaluck for reminding me of my blunder. And I ask all the people who posted comments on the previous post to forgive me. My bad.

By the way, Rio Carnival has (unofficially) ended today.

Zootopia and all related characters are © Disney

I have seen several Zootopia fan arts created by artists from around the world showing characteristics of their local cultures (such as those produced by Japanese artists, for example) and I decided to create a fan art honoring the maximum expression of Brazilian culture, the Carioca Carnival.

Well, just in the same way as Jose (Zé) Carioca, who lives in Rio, receives visits from Donald Duck, who lives in Duckburg.

I've been told the origin of the word means "festival of the flesh", a celebration of carnal desires. Over time things evolved, but in many places there is still a strong leaning towards the theme of people taking off their clothes and putting on costumes to anonymously express their sexuality; there is also, of course, tamer celebrations as well, though usually still involving costumes and dancing.

There are several "blocos de rua", community bands playing mostly samba instruments (though sometimes also playing non-samba music), that gather a large following and party on the streets, some have set routes around the city, others just stay in one place. And there are also "escolas de samba", which are sorta like the professional equivalent of blocos de rua, they each put on a parade with elaborate costumes, floats, choreography, and samba music, all created specifically for the event each year, performing one after the other on "sambodromos" (large streets with purpose built bleachers on each side) in a competition with rules and judges and stuff; quite a sight to behold, you should look up some videos on Youtube (might have some mildly NSFW stuff, mainly a few good looking women wearing elaborate but minimal costumes, sometimes topless), I guess keywords like "desfile de carnaval rio de janeiro" would probably give some good results.

The above is just from my limited experience living in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, mostly from watching things on TV and hearing from friends and family, and the few times my parents took me to some blocos de rua when I was little (I myself am not much of a party person, don't feel all that comfortable in crowds and noisy environments and stuff); there are some variations on how people celebrate in other parts of the country, and even within those two cities.

Wow. Thank you. sounds more fun than our celebrations, but brings to me an interesting point. it's an aside, and not related. but the best online forum for fixing your air cooled Volkswagen is a forum called the Samba, and if I remember correctly Brazil was the last country to stop making the air cooled Kombi, a point so large that the Original company Volkswagen AG, posted a departure ad. just of the back side of one of the cars, in celebration of the longest lived model of car.

Think about New Orleans Mardi Gras. Then multiply all the lewdness, drunkenness, loudness and pee on the streets for seven million (the number of inhabitants of Rio de Janeiro) and you'll have a distant idea about what Rio Carnival is.

And the whole thing lasts four days. At least officially.
